Yea I'm with mbedner, it's surprising to know that the FO started considering it at that time. I guess Snyder and FO liked what Shanny have done with the team, he definitely turned it around.

I would wait to see how next year goes when this team has to play towards high expectations.

Re: Are you buying into the Shanaplan?

An extension now is a dumb idea. We're on a nice run. See where it goes, and more importantly, see how next year turns out. Nobody is going anywhere regardless. The franchises with open HC spots (if you believe Kyle would really be on a short list) don't have much promise. So he'd presumably go somewhere, lose for two-three years and ultimately be back to coordinating somewhere else. I say if he wants to do that, we don't want him anyway.

At any rate, negotiating anything in the midst of the staff's only good showing, a seven game stretch after two and a half seasons of dismal results, is just stupid business by any franchise. It's the kind of the thing I'd expect from the "old" Snyder.

We need to fire Mike Shanahan today. He has won nothing. We should bring in Wayne Fontes to replace him.

This wasn't new thread worthy, but is it time to let Shanny off the hook for the McNabb deal? Consider this since the trade:
Philadelphia has a 22-26 record, no clear answer at QB, has changed front office personnel, fired their coach and is looking at starting over. The picks traded for McNabb (Nate Allen, repeatedly injured and benched & through a series of trades Casey Matthews, DeMeco Ryans & Nick Foles) haven't yielded much fruit for the Eagles. Foles may turn out to be serviceable but he's far from a clear cut NFL starting QB.

From our side we are 21-27 (one game worse), have a clear answer at QB, stability in coaching and front office and turned McNabb into the pick that brought us Alfred Morris.

How does that deal look from a different perspective now?

I'm not dead but this team is dead to me...but now that McCloughan is here they may have new life!

Jay Gruden = Zorny McSpurrier
Kirk Cousins = Next Grossman

Funny how quickly things change eh?

Look at the way things are shaping up in the division. The Eagles are in full rebuild mode, the Cowboys are stumbling and bumbling around as usual, Romo is nearing the end of his contract there, and the Giants lost a lot of their luster this year and showed that you can't just expect to turn it on at the end of every season. Meanwhile the Skins are stocked with young talent are only trending upward.

I voted no, but it was for the lulz. (which were achieved)

I normally wait for the mods to post their opinions so I can thereby form my own. Got to tow the company line of the Shanahan apologists.

Re: Are you buying into the Shanaplan?

QB play is clearly an area we have lacked for a long time. The other part of the McNabb trade was the releasing of JC. I was one who rather would have kept JC, but clearly his play since being released, including his time in Oakland, showed keeping him would have done nothing more than McNabb/Grossman and the upside potential of McNabb and Grossman were better at the time. So, while I don't think Shanahan gets kudos for handling the JC/McNabb situation, ultimately we came out ahead, and I don't think it set the team back any in its development.

I was against Campbell's release also, but in the end, it was the best thing for the Redskins and the best thing for Campbell. With learning so many offenses up to that point, Campbell certainly had too much baggage so I understand why Mike Shanahan didn't want him as his starting QB.

With bringing McNabb to Washington, it was like starting over like when Norv Turner became our HC and they drafted Heath Shuler. Ultimatey, the McNabb/Shanahan thing didn't work out. But those things contributed to the Redskins losing and significantly drafting the one quarterback that was desperately needed. (RG3)

And do your homework well when acquiring FAs (Cofield, Carriker, Garcon, Morgan)

Yeah, you always gotta spend to add quality, but you have to spend wisely and bring in good players, but good people as well.

Look to the Eagles on what not to do...Reid was crazy and spent oodles for over priced free agents and look where they are now. Glad we dont do that ish anymore.

Well we still spend a lot on free agents and probably always will.

We don't spend as recklessly as we used to in the Vinny days.

Under Allen the contracts have been much more in line with what the market pays.
