I meant not to lose, my mistake.

So he played to win? Like every coach does? I don't think the playcalling at the end of the Ravens-Broncos game was really that bad. Players gotta execute at the end of the day.

Mike McCoy to the Chargers, probably why he played not to lose at the end.
You can thank Foxball for that. Panther fans were having flashbacks after watching that Broncos/Ravens game. They've seen that script all too often.

Sad thing is, this idiot still says he wouldn't do anything different. That should be a sign for Elway to fire him. Not a good HC. Great coordinator though.

i definitely agree they would be better off with a defensive minded coach. Either way, i dont see them being competitive for a while.

Still surprised at Jon Gruden not getting much interest. I'm assuming he's wanting more money/control than teams are willing to give him.

Also surprised that no one scooped up Lovie Smith already. I think he's a great coach.

According to Elliot on DC101 Bears fans are freaking out about hiring a CFL coach. I guess we'll see how it works out. And a 4 am press release announcing the hiring? Clearly they are unconcerned with how people are going perceive the news.

Anyone who wins two Grey Cups and has a distinguished record besides is definitely worth a shot.

winning two grey cups is not a particularly impressive accomplishment. There are only 8 teams in the CFL for goodness sake. Other than that, i dont know what accomplishments he has that could be considered "distinguished." He's had alot of NFL position group/OC jobs over the years but none of them are remotely impressive.

From his his wikipedia webpage:

Marc Trestman - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Quote:
NFL Draft Training CoachAccording to Trestman's website, "Marc has been one of the most trusted and respected QB coaches in the game. Which is why every off-season, the top NFL draft prospects call on Marc to work them out in preparation for the their Pro Day and the NFL Combine".

Some of the QBs who have been trained by Trestman include: Brandon Weeden (1st round pick by the Cleveland Browns), Brock Osweiler (2nd round pick by the Denver Broncos), Tim Tebow (1st round pick by the Denver Broncos), Jimmy Clausen (2nd round pick by the Carolina Panthers) and Jason Campbell (1st round pick by the Washington Redskins).
That list is a joke - I actually laughed out loud at my desk. Trestman takes bad quarterbacks and teaches them a few parlor tricks so they look deceptively good at their pro-days. Then, NFL teams spend high draft picks on these guys and they go on to become colossal busts. Trestman = Snake Oil.

I do agree with your thought that he "deserves a shot" - as opposed to others here who seem to think the Bears made some sort of great hire. Hey, everyone deserves a shot, right? Still, the Bears fired Lovie Smith for this guy, and I view that as a major downgrade.

Actually winning two Grey Cups is quite meaningful. Lots of people are good OC's and QB coaches but cannot make the leap to head coach. Trestman has a track record of successfully making that leap.

We should expect the Bears to lead the NFL in rouges.

I agree. What his resume was as an OC throughout the NFL, speaks for itself. I think it'll work out great for him, the bears and jay cutler (hopefully Brandon Marshall won't bitch and whine at him like in the past with new HCs)
