Amazing that some still think we're getting that $$ back. Or that Snyder is calling any shots.

Isn't it understandable that people think Snyder still calls shots, after we found out he wasn't hands-off when Gibbs was here?

Cerrato: "No matter what anyone from the outside thinks, everybody has always had input in the decisions," he said. "Everybody has always had a say, and that's not changing. Before, it was Joe and I walking down the hall to talk to Dan about what our game plan was. Now, it'll be Jim and I walking down the hall to talk to Dan about the game plan."

So, at the risk of being obsessed, let me point out that during the Gibbs Era, there was no meddling and nobody talked to Dan Snyder about football and all he did was sign the checks, and also the draft strategy was based on his philosophy and he was instrumental in shaping the team’s free agency approach and he met with draft prospects and watched their workouts. Got it.

I hope Snyder really is hands off now, but that might depend on what the definition of "hands off" means.

Matty, how much distance does a typical "hands-off" NFL owner put between himself and the day-to-day football-side of management?

Owners have the final say and thats the only one that matters.

I think so too. There just seems to me a vast gulf between the articles I quoted, and what smootsmack said in his awesome "understanding the scouting process" thread. I believe SS, and really hope Snyder's changed that much in all areas of the "football side" of club operations. But I heard the same "Snyder's changed" mantra when Gibbs was here too, when in hindsight he hadn't changed. And I wonder now how owners thought of as "hands off" really do a lot more than just "sign checks".

The jury is still out. But if the Redskins can get some of that money back, it would be excellent. But like you I doubt if they will be able to.
