"My wife and I have spent the last one and a half months talking about it, and it all came down to what we wanted in life, and it didn't include playing football." It is an interesting choice, since far worse players have retired before entering the NFL, but it is refreshing to see this kind of life choice made prior to the draft.

I can't imagine any profession that can match the earning potential of a back-up QB in the NFL. Not to mention the networking opportunities in broadcasting. Strange/wrong decision imo.

Maybe he values being with his family on a regular basis instead of in the film room, weight room, trainer's room, bus, airplane and hotel all the time.

True that, maybe he is stable financially and used football to pay for school and dreamed of pursuing another career.
