Re: Dag nabbit! We're not getting FieldTurf.
What they should do is put down brand new grass and not schedule any events at FedEx during the football season. If you continuing having these concerts, soccer and football games there during the season, it's simply going to destroy the grass.
I think you'll see what Dan cherishes more. His players safety or money. This is how grass is supposed to be for a outdoor football stadium. ![]() Our crew does a excellent job at keeping the field in top shape all year long. (especially the football season)

Some of you really make me shake my head.
I've watched the Redskins have some of their greatest wins in the sloppy mud trenches of RFK back in the day. It was 10 times worse than that Seattle game. Maybe we should give the players silk hankies and Grey Poupon during the game too.

How is it stupid response? It's a correct response. Spending money on player salaries doesn't mean you are spending money on player safety. The two doesn't go hand and hand. These are the same guys that pushed for a 18 game season so I think it's quite evident that owners aren't genuine in their push for player safety.

These types of responses are so stupid. His player safty = $$$$$$. Also he has shown over and over again he will spend money on the team so that's not even an issue. ECU Playing Surface During the summer of 1983, a complete renovation was done on the playing surface. A new drainage system, a new base of gravel and sand, new treated topsoil, and a new grass--Tifton 419 Hybrid Bermuda--was installed. Bermuda would be nice in DC but it would be dormant by the begining of November. |

Players complain about the field turf too, and it's rougher on the knees, maybe not a good idea when you have a QB coming off knee surgery?

You will not see any of those types of fields again with the drainage they now use under the turf.

2013 Field
As long as there is enough time between games to allow the grass to take hold, the Redskins will plan to have fresh a fresh surface at the end of the 2013 season. "We missed an opportunity last year in the window between the seventh game and the tenth game to resod the field," he said. "Obviously it’s not going to grow, we’re not in Florida, but we think it’s going to address the playing field in December and January." |

Re: Dag nabbit! We're not getting FieldTurf.
Not sure why everyone is complaining - it's been over 1-2 months now. The turf did not cause RG3's injury, he was injured for weeks and an awkward run at the goal line worsened it. AstroTurf or MoonTurf wouldn't have made a difference. Clemons.. well - he was on the other team at least..
It's football, a man's game. They play in rain, snow and sleet and we're supposed to care that it gets muddy in December? And yes, I get it, nothing else to talk about this time of year. |

Is that any safer? I've played on field turf before and being the world class athlete that I am, I can say it's not too bad. You do get the rubber pellets everywhere though.

Re: Dag nabbit! We're not getting FieldTurf.
I played on the old astroturf and have walked on Field Turf. IMO they are two different animals. Astroturf was a green covering over concrete and was terrible. Field Turf has much more give to it.

One of the arguments I hate the most is, it was that way back in the day so it will be fine to continue with. It really makes no sense to me, things evolve. I don't necessarily think it has to be field turf, but I would think that would be better with these hellish winters the dc area has seen as of late. Regardless something needs to and will be done. But to say its just fine as is and tough it up seems kinda ludicrous.
For me as a fan I enjoy a completely level playing field with conditions at the best when watching games. It's fun to watch a sloppy game every now and then. But I'll take a good well matched game with the only advantage being location any day of the week.

Just put domes in every NFL city.
End of story. Then they can just rotate the super bowl in alphabetical order and stop this bidding crap.

Re: Dag nabbit! We're not getting FieldTurf.
The NFL has been a safety oriented league for some time now. Under Roger Goodell's leadership, reforms within the NFL have come at a blazing rate, and now, the NFL is eyeing another way to improve player safety on the field.
According to Clark Judge of CBS Sports, the NFL will be "more proactive" when deciding if a field needs to be re-sod. The current rule is rather decentralized. Every individual team determines whether their playing surface is safe enough to play on, and the league has no particular responsibility in approving such determinations. “Going forward, we’re going to be much more proactive about making sure we, at the league level, make determinations, particularly with natural surfaces, later in the year subject to weather factors,” Ray Anderson, the NFL's vice president of football operations said. “We must be more attentive and more assertive about when certain standards or re-soding or maintenance needs to be redone.” While the specifics of what exactly "more proactive" mean aren't clear, it seems as if the NFL will simply try to push teams towards re-soding their fields if the playing surface becomes questionable. If that doesn't work, look for the NFL to push for a centralized method of determining when to re-sod fields. This is a policy that should have been introduced years ago, and it probably doesn't go far enough in its effort to improve player safety. There's no doubt that the high-profile injury to Robert Griffin III, which was largely blamed on the playing surface's poor quality, pushed the league towards more oversight in the matter, and hopefully playing surfaces will be held to a higher standard moving forward. NFL to be proactive about field quality |
