Re: London Fletcher leaning towards playing in 2013 (updated)

It all depends on young RG3 and our health. I think we can contend this year assuming RG3 starts the first game (no later than the 3rd game) and isn't rattled in the pocket like Tom Brady was when he first came back from his ACL injury. Even if Roberts like what he was in week 17 against Dallas and progressively gets better, we'll be in good shape, because he'll also know the offense better than he did last year.

Its really health of the whole team and losing key guys (Like a Fletcher should Keenan not work out). Orakpo was out most of last year, so that is a major reason our defense sucked in terms of giving up lots of passing yards. Orakpo back makes us better and a bigger contender right there.

LF has been to a SB, he knows what it takes. I think if he thought this team was 3-4 years away, he would retire right now. He also knows that a SB victory is only achieved by one team so I doubt he would be unprepared for it if we didn't win. I think he believes we are good enough to get in the playoffs, and once in anything can happen.

Fair enough, if we win next year, please feel free to mark this comment threat so you can mock me later

You asked a few post back who in their right mind thinks we can compete this year. It seemed like you you were saying we can't compete at all let alone for the SB.

I also don't agree that the front office has already tossed in the towel. Even with the cap penalty by bringing back our key free agents they're at least trying to keep the core of the team together, and we'll have a chance to improve with the draft as well. Not making a big splash in free agency isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Again, just my personal opinion.
I see what your saying, even Dallas won 13 games a few years back. It takes enough talent and luck to be a SB team, I think if Griff is healthy all year then we should repeat as division champs and win at least 10 games again.

Hell, If this cap penalty holds (which for all intents and purposes, it will), I don't even think the front office thinks we are contenders this year. My feeling is that the front office is willing to take a step back this year to take a gigantic leap forward in the years to come.

We'll become a prominent and formidable team that consistently is in the Super Bowl discussion, but it won't be this year.

The Redskins were only two safeties away from being a 15-1 team last year. With the additions on offense last year with the use of free agency and the draft, it produced the 4th ranked NFL offense. The Redskins had true explosion on offense. We also went 5-1 in the division and were 1:17 seconds away from being a perfect 6-0 in the division. The Redskins were in every game they played in last yet except the Pittsburgh game. The offense also produced over 400 points, something it hasn't done since 1999. 5 of the Redskins 6 losses were by 7 points or less. The Redskins have drafted well for three years straight(about to be 4 years straight) and this team is almost totally rebuilt. The only reason the Redskins didn't inch further in the playoffs was because of Robert's ailing knee injury. I strongly disagree with your assessment that the Redskins are still far away from competing for a SB championship.

If we had the '85 Bears defense we might have gone 15-1.

Not at all. Look where it got us year after year after year with Vinny. Top 10 picks… …which we traded away for more washed up veterans.

Build through the draft. Supplement in FA with guys that are a good team fit, not superstars.

Would rather have the Steelers defense of the 70's. 10 years > 1, even then though, I think most teams would probably have gone 15-1 too, or close to it. Especially in the NFC East.

Those old school defenses couldn't survive the new rule changes. They'd all be suspended by week 3.

if you've got a qb, stranger things can happen. If rgiii was healthy, we could have blown by the seahawks. we beat the ravens last year (barely). I mean, if our D is top 16, who knows what happens.

That might be stretching it a bit.

Because of free agency it is impossible to keep a D together like the '70's Steelers. Even the '85 Bears couldn't keep their D together because some team (ahem) poached Wilbur Marshall.

Shanny sounds like expects London to be back. Said, "he's not the type of player you'd approach about about a pay cut."

Maybe the part of what I said about the Redskins being 15-1, but the rest of what I said is pretty accurate.
