Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013

If you are really counting on Rob Jackson to start 16 games and be efficient those games, I think you will be disappointed. I like Rob Jackson, but he seems like one of those players that looks good for a couple of games and then when he actually has to start for an entire year, people will forget about him. Making the flashy play every once in a while does not mean you are a solid starter. I think of Rob Jackson as Jarret Johnson from the Chargers. On the Ravens he looked good when he played, the Chargers then got him started him for the majority of his season and then you never hear from him again. Good teams have a lot of players like Rob Jackson.
Look at what happened to the defense without Orakpo before you start thinking about replacing him. Kerrigan was taken out and completely disappeared for a lot of games. Jenkins is coming along but still not sure what to expect from him especially with his knee. If you trade Orakpo there will be no pass rush, just like last year. The DLine and outside linebacker need to improve in terms of talent, not to trade away its most talented player. Redskins need to look at this position group as well as something they need to improve. If they do not then people will then blame the DB's for the fact QB's have 7 seconds to throw the ball. There were times last year where I felt the QB could hold the ball for as long as he wanted and the Skins still would not get him. I hope Orakpo comes healthy and plays to form, because if he doesn't, based on last year, it will be a long year for the DB's and the defense.

I dont know if you realize this, but Rob Jackson started 14 games and played the run and the pass better than Brian Orakpo. Only thing Orakpo did better was rush the passer. You never heard of Jarred Johnson in Baltimore either.

San Diego signed Johnson to a 4 year 20 million dollar at the age of 30 and there was a lot of interest for him from the Jets as well. He was a significant free agent coming out of Baltimore, he was a pretty big name in Baltimore. As far as Jackson I did not see him play the run better than Orakpo. I never really saw Jackson blowing up run plays or being a beast on the edge. Neither did Orakpo but I would not say Jackson played the run better. As far as the pass he got interceptions, not sure how much he did besides that. Both he and Kerrigan can get interceptions a lot better than Orakpo. Orakpo cannot catch. Outside linebackers getting interceptions is a product of a scheme more than them covering some one and making a play. Remember Orakpo against the Rams dropping an Interception, Haslett put him in the right place at the right time. Tight ends killed the skins all year, and Jackson was part of that problem in my opinion, as were the safeties, and linebackers. Redskins could not cover anyone or get any pass rush, Orakpo's absence was a huge problem, there was a reason the Skins were one of the worst defenses in the NFL last year.

I'm not saying that Jackson is a bad player. He is solid in my opinion, but that is it. I'm saying to think he will replace Orakpo is incorrect because last year proved that he cannot, seeing how bad the defense was. In my opinion Jackson is a player on a good team that really only the fans know about. He is a role player. I want him to stay on the Skins because you need role players to win. But Jackson will not replace Orakpo. Not for an entire season. Last year proved it.

Just playing devils advocate here but RJ is only I his forth year and he could produce better results this year as he grows as a player. I am not saying I want to dump Orakpo but there is evidence of RJ getting better as the year progressed and he had a bigger role in the defense.
