He may be viewed as a no. 3 guy, but he's started for the better part of three seasons and essentially never lines up in the slot. He's an edge defender only.

according to rotoworld:

It's an underrated get for the cap-strapped Redskins. The 6'0/185 Biggers was the lone bright spot in Tampa's rancid secondary last season, grading out as a top-20 coverage corner according to ProFootballFocus. There's also a familiarity in the scheme as former Bucs head coach and current Redskins secondary coach Raheem Morris was with Biggers for his first two NFL seasons. Still just 25 years old, the 2009 seventh-round pick has 24 career starts under his belt. If the Redskins don't bring back free agent DeAngelo Hall, Biggers could be penciled in at left corner.

REDSKINS SIGN CB E.J. BIGGERS

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. – The Washington Redskins announced today that they have signed unrestricted free agent cornerback E.J. Biggers. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Biggers (6-0, 185) was originally drafted out of Western Michigan by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the seventh round (217th overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft. He has appeared in 45 career games with 24 starts, amassing 153 tackles (131 solo), three interceptions, 27 passes defensed, two forced fumbles, one sack and 16 special teams tackles as credited by coaches’ film.

In 2012, Biggers appeared in 13 games with 12 starts for the Buccaneers, finishing fifth on the team with 48 tackles (39 solo) and notching his first career sack and two forced fumbles. From 2009-11, he played under current Redskins defensive backs coach Raheem Morris, Tampa Bay’s head coach during those seasons.

Biggers, 25, played collegiately at Western Michigan from 2005-08, appearing in 46 games with 40 starts and named second-team All-MAC as a senior.

Edjuan “E.J.” Biggers was born on June 13, 1987, in Miami. He attended the city’s North Miami Beach H.S., where he was named Dade County Player of the Year as a senior in 2004.

I got a good feeling on this guy. Even if he is a slot guy we will draft a starting FS and CB this draft.

This defense will ce together and Biggers is just another piece. Sorry guys but we can't get any worse than we already were. If the FO wants this guy then there must be something about him that they like and feel he can fill a role on the team.

Hopefully the plan for Biggers isn't to replace Hall, as he's a huge, huge downgrade. Biggers makes the mistakes Hall does but lacks the upside i.e. ballhawk and consistent INT production.

Took the words out of my mouth. In the previous FA thread, someone proposed that we could still resign Hall. The last thing in the world this team needs is both of those guys on the field at the same time.

Biggers is a poor man's DeAngelo Hall. Let that sink in, people.

He's also a 7th round pick where as Hall was taken with the 9th overall pick, I like this pickup. Biggers still has room to grow. Hall is what he is.

Shameless self-promotion. It is what it is.

Where the players were taken in the draft is completely irrelevant at this point. Biggers is a 4 year veteran; he also "is what he is."

And just when I thought all the caterwauling was going to stop about our secondary depth during FA, here comes Goat. ;-) While I realize he was not the best option during FA, I feel like he is young enough he can still develop and improve for us. I still wouldn't mind bringing Hall back for the right amount of coin. Don't exactly see him as in demand since he's still on the market this far into the FA period...
