In the end though I think the high tender shows JC that the team wants him back for one year at least, and it gives him a decent paycheck that works for both sides. |

Re: ESPN: Clayton Expects Skins to Tender Campbell for a 1st and 3rd
Y'all should read this:
Julius Peppers among few likely winners in 2010 free agent market - Don Banks - SI.com "It may be a situation where there are more trades, because if a club tendered a lot of guys, but now someone comes after one of them, maybe they're willing to be flexible and work with you on a trade,'' another veteran NFL general manager said. "Just because his tender is a (first) and a (third)-round pick, maybe they're willing to take less than that and be creative, and now you've got a deal. I think there's going to be a lot of that type of dialogue because of the circumstances this year.''

I agree that this shows the team wants him back as they really dont have any other options. I think if they draft a QB then JC can provide some competition and even start for a few weeks until the new guy is up to speed. |

Re: ESPN: Clayton Expects Skins to Tender Campbell for a 1st and 3rd
the skins tendering JC at a 1st and 3rd is not a reflection that they value him as being worth a 1st and 3rd. that is the best tender to put him on.
JC gets the most money possible out of the tag/tender options so he has to be somewhat content even if it is just 3.2 mil for 2010. so the skins show JC some respect, maybe keep him happy that he recieved the highest tender, but it is still chump change for an nfl qb.

Re: ESPN: Clayton Expects Skins to Tender Campbell for a 1st and 3rd
GM's put a franchise tag of 1 and 3 on a player usually that's hot and lots of teams want. Either they want to scare other GM's away or ask for a lot in a trade the 1 and 3 it's used from hot players like a Miles Austin right now. Or Schuabb whe he was traded they had showed enough for teams really want him and in the case of Atlanta get a lot of value for a guy that at the time was worth more to them as a trade than a player.
putting a tag of 1st and 3rd that nobody sees he's worth that it's useless and a bad GM move |

Re: ESPN: Clayton Expects Skins to Tender Campbell for a 1st and 3rd
Latest news this morning says that St. Louis is expected to trade for Campbell.
The eagles are expected to keep Vick on as a backup incase McNabb struggles, and lastly, the redskins look more and more likely to take Bradford....

Do you have any link, or source about St. Louis? I hadn't seen anything about that one. Would certainly be interesting to see what type of trade they worked out for him.

I've heard the Rams rumor but at this point it's not much more than speculation.

Re: ESPN: Clayton Expects Skins to Tender Campbell for a 1st and 3rd
FOXNews.com - Thin market for free-agent QBs
Quarterbacks who should get starter consideration 1. Jason Campbell, Washington Redskins Status: restricted free agent Possible suitors: Arizona Cardinals, Buffalo Bills, Denver Broncos, Minnesota Vikings, St. Louis Rams, Washington Redskins With veteran QB Kurt Warner retiring, the Cardinals need to add at least another quarterback with experience to compete against Matt Leinart. Campbell has 52 starts in his five seasons as a pro. The Bills literally have no idea who will be their starting quarterback next season, so why not go after Campbell, who would be a clear upgrade? Depending on what the team does with Kyle Orton, the Broncos could pursue Campbell. The Vikings will need at least a few alternatives if veteran QB Brett Favre retires. Campbell has experience in the West Coast offense. The Rams are the one team that will probably look hard at acquiring at least two quarterbacks this year, and, as mentioned above, Campbell does have playing experience with the West Coast offense. Texas Longhorns: Football, Basketball, Baseball and more | Statesman.com There are rumors that the St. Louis Rams are interested in getting Jason Campbell from the Washington Redskins. The thought of Sam Bradford ending up a ‘Skin is looking more and more likely. There are lots of articles, but those 2 talked about him the most in-depth, IMO

Re: ESPN: Clayton Expects Skins to Tender Campbell for a 1st and 3rd
When you said "expected", I thought maybe there were some solid details. I am sure Campbell will be looked at by every team in need of a QB, the question is will they offer what the Skins want, and what exactly are the Skins willing to take. If the Rams offered their 2nd round pick, I would imagine we would take that or maybe push for their 4th as well. I don't know, but I hope IF we don't keep Campbell, that we don't give him away cheaply either.

I would definitely trade Campbell for the Rams' second rounder. I know it may be a reach, but hey I wouldn't mind taking advantage of someone else's miscalculation.

How about JC for a 3rd and 4th? I would probably go for that.

Re: ESPN: Clayton Expects Skins to Tender Campbell for a 1st and 3rd
I really think he ought to have a higher market than that, but if that was the best offer out there, AND, we knew we would get Shanny's choice of QB in the draft, then those picks would come in nice to fill out some position depth. Along those same lines what about this year and next year's 3rd for JC. The value is about the same, but might get a nice player with the extra 3rd next year.
- sidenote - I am still really excited to see how this new draft format plays out, I think Friday between the first and second/third rounds will have the potential for a lot of wheeling and dealing to get our draft board set up for Friday night and Saturday. |
