Cowboys | Decision day for K. Johnson?
Mon, 13 Mar 2006 21:58:52 -0800

Todd Archer, of the Dallas Morning News, reports Dallas Cowboys WR Keyshawn Johnson's future with the team will be decided Tuesday, March 14. If Johnson is on the Cowboys' roster at 3 p.m., he will receive a $1 million bonus. The Cowboys must decide whether to give him the money or release him. Johnson, scheduled to earn a base salary of $1.5 million this season, would like a one-year extension and a raise that pays him between $2 million and $3 million. The Cowboys could pay him the bonus and release him later, but that's unlikely.

Eagles | Schobel to land $7.5 contract
Mon, 13 Mar 2006 22:06:51 -0800

Chick Ludwig, of the Dayton Daily News, reports free agent TE Matt Schobel's (Bengals) five-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles will pay him $7.5 million. As reported earlier, the deal will include a $1.8 million signing bonus.

with all our receiving news, figure i should add some about division rivals. KJ wants a bit more money, dallas decides if they want to keep him today (it'd probably be a good idea).

meanwhile the eagles got schobel for 1.5mill a year. he's better than royal who got 2mill/year, but not by all that much. a fair deal.

Dolphins | Mare on the way out?
Tue, 14 Mar 2006 05:03:51 -0800

Harvey Fialkov, of the Sun-Sentinel, reports Miami Dolphins PK Olindo Mare has asked to be released or traded after recently being told to take a substantial pay cut, according to a source. "They told him he was overpaid and not worth the money, and to take a pay cut or they'll trade him,'' the source said. "He said, 'Are you kidding me? Release me now to give me a chance to find out my market value.' He was shocked.'' Mare is slated to earn $1.4 million this season and signed through the 2009 season. Mare's agent Drew Rosenhaus denied a trade ultimatum was given. "Olindo has a contract with the Dolphins. He would love to stay with Miami. If it doesn't work out, he'll be a coveted guy as a free agent,'' Rosenhaus said.

kicker drama! yay!

Colts | Cortez re-signed
Tue, 14 Mar 2006 18:13:20 -0800

Michael Marot, of the Associated Press, reports the Indianapolis Colts have re-signed PK Jose Cortez to a one-year, $585,000 contract. Cortez came to the Colts late last season as a kickoff specialist but is expected to compete with Dave Rayner for the placekicking job, assuming free agent PK Mike Vanderjagt is not re-signed. "I'm under the understanding that he'll be given the opportunity to win the job," said Cortez's agent, Bruce Tollner. "And they've kept a kickoff guy in the past and he's done that job before, too. But we're hoping he gets an opportunity to win both jobs."

Updating previous reports, Matt Maiocco, of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, reports San Francisco 49ers head coach Mike Nolan said the team offered more money to WR Joe Jurevicius than the Cleveland Browns did, but Jurevicius opted to sign with the Browns and return to his hometown.

Matt Maiocco, of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, reports free agent CB Walt Harris (Redskins) is expected to visit with the San Francisco 49ers soon.

Lions | Campbell signed
Tue, 14 Mar 2006 14:19:15 -0800

The Detroit Lions have signed free agent TE Dan Campbell (Cowboys) to a five-year deal. Financial terms were not disclosed.

alright, lions steal campbell from the roids, who also let KJ go. TO might be in dallas now that he's free. Givens DOES get big money, but i'm not sure he'll live up to it.

And now we know WHY the 49ers were so eager to get bryant. they trade lloyd, lose out of El and JJ and started to panic. they did get bryant for a fair price though. Looks like JJ wouldn't have come here. it was browns (his hometown), seattle or bust apparently.

walt harris visits the 9ers... in other news, who cares?

Vikings | McKinnie willing to stay
Tue, 14 Mar 2006 19:41:19 -0800

Sean Jensen, of the Pioneer Press, reports Minnesota Vikings OT Bryant McKinnie said last month he didn't want to remain with the Vikings if they traded QB Daunte Culpepper. Now however, McKinnie, who will enter the final year of his contract, said he is open to remaining with the team. "If I get to the point where I'm at the end of my contract, then of course I'm going to look around," McKinnie said. "But they don't need to trade me right now because he's gone."

Seahawks | Team to meet with Burleson
Tue, 14 Mar 2006 19:40:50 -0800

Sean Jensen, of the Pioneer Press, reports the Seattle Seahawks will meet with Minnesota Vikings restricted free agent WR Nate Burleson Thursday, March 16 and Friday, March 17, his agent Ken Sarnoff said. Burleson confirmed the visit and said, "I always loved the Seahawks and Sonics, because I was a hometown guy." The Vikings would receive a third-round pick if the Seahawks, or any other club, successfully signs restricted free agent Burleson. Seattle would appeal to Burleson because his parents still live in the area.

so, burleson isn't superhot on staying and McKinnie talked a big game, but when it came time to back it up, he choked. McKinnie and Smoot bothed said they were confident with B Johnson starting.

the vikes are also going with new uniforms next year. no details available.

Vikings | Childress does not rule out trading up in the NFL Draft
Tue, 14 Mar 2006 20:59:12 -0800

Kevin Seifert, of the Star Tribune, reports Minnesota Vikings head coach Brad Childress did not rule out packaging several draft picks, they now own the 17th, 48th and 51st picks, to move up in the first round and select one of the draft's three premier quarterbacks: USC's Matt Leinart, Texas' Vince Young and Vanderbilt's Jay Cutler. "You look at all those eventualities and see if you feel like there is something," Childress said.

Falcons | Team trying to trade for Abraham
Tue, 14 Mar 2006 20:58:41 -0800

ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports the Atlanta Falcons are trying to piece together a trade offer to present to the New York Jets in exchange for franchise free agent DE John Abraham. One significant blockage to a deal that, despite ongoing efforts from both sides, remains a long shot: The Falcons steadfastly refuse to include QB Matt Schaub, the player Jets officials regard as the centerpiece to any deal, in their trade proposals. It is believed the Jets are seeking Schaub and the Falcons' second-round draft pick for Abraham.

so the vikes want a QB now and the jets might be waiting to see if they can get schaub (who despite media love, isn't very good. volek is clearly better).
