Re: The annual QB carousel

Browns benched Flacco and go with Gabriel yet all the talk is about Sheddur.

Browns are screwed until they can get out of the Watson contract.

Browns likely to finish with double digit loses, regardless of how many games Gabriel and/or Sanders starts. Neither qb will be the long term future.

Haslam is likely to clean house after the season. Stefanski is in his 6th year. Browns have 2 #1 picks in 2026. Their own pick likely to be Top 10. The new guys will wants their own qb.

Gabriel did decent job, considering the game was in London. But yeah I agree with you, barring surprise wins, this is likely Stefanski's last year.

Re: The annual QB carousel

If the Bengals want to salvage their season; they need a different qb.

Kirk Cousins is probably too expensive for a one year rental but maybe the Bengals trade for the Giants backups- Wilson or Winston?

I think Tyler Huntley remains unsigned. Just surprised that no one has picked him up. He’s had more than a few good games under his belt.

The NFL hates Jameis Winston. He is better than Joe Freakin' Flacco.

Browns are such a loser organization. They just can't seem to get the QB right. I have no idea why they messed around w/ Flacco in the first place. He's got bricks in his feet. I would just blitz him on every single obvious passing down.

If you draft two young guys that have both played a lot of football stop being scared to play them. Same w/ the Giants messing around w/ Wilson. You don't draft a QB really high to let them watch. Makes no sense.

Flacco must really want to play football still lol. Dude is 40 with a ring and has evolved into a journeyman on crappy teams. One can't even say his legacy is being tarnished because the teams he's playing for suck so bad.

The new Vinny Testaverde...

Maybe he's got a bet on to see how many times he can play against the Steelers?

Re: The annual QB carousel

The 2027 offseason is a key offseason for that 24 QB draft class.

1st round picks can have that 5th year option picked up and the then 3rd year, entering Year 4, players can negotiate a contract extension.

I’ll just talk about the first round picks since the other round picks have no impact.

5th Year Option

Williams and Nix have played the most and will
definitely get that 5th year option.

Maye is next and he will get the 5th year option.

Daniels is a question mark. Another injury plagued season and he doesn’t get the option picked up. He plays the full season, he gets his option picked up.

McCarthy and Pennix, even if they play the full season probably won’t get the option
picked up. They need more than one full season, to judge them.

Contract Extension

I think Williams, Nix and Maye will be offered the extension. Whether they do get one, is unknown.

Daniel’s might also be offered the extension, if he plays the full 3rd year.

I don’t know if McCarthy or Pennix will get offered an extension after one season of full play. If neither play a full 3rd year; definitely not. Right now they are closer to being busts than getting that 2nd contract.

Those contract negotiations will be interesting as 6 QBs will be looking for that extension/2nd contract. Who jumps first?

Re: The annual QB carousel

The odds are not good for JD5 to play a healthy season based on what we've seen.. I'm still a huge fan of his but I will say the concern for a consistent stretch of seasons is there

Re: The annual QB carousel

Now that everyone has been hired at the head coach level; it’s on to the QB carousel.

Since the draft really has one qb, Mendoza; the veteran market should be lively again. At least trying to a short term stopgap for this year and maybe next. Also, could see teams trying to get 1st or 2nd round picks in the 2027 draft; since next year is a more qb friendly draft.

Cousins should be released by the Falcons. Cardinals rumored to be moving on from Murray and the Dolphins to move on from Tua.

Could be a lot of teams tanking for the 27 draft class, since the 26 QB market is thin.

So look at the teams in the market:

Dolphins- They move on from Tua , what stopgap qb? Moving on from Tua takes a big bite of the cap.

Jets- Fields is done. No free agent will want to come here as Glenn is likely going to get fired at some point. They will have a high draft pick again in 2027.

Steelers- McCarthy might be able to convince Rodgers to come back for one more year but Steelers need that long term QB.

Browns- Probably run it back with Sanders and Dillon and since they are stuck with Watson’s contract; Watson might play also. I can see them to move to get more 27 picks ; so they can draft a QB.

Colts- Expect another year with Daniel Jones. They might wait a year before giving him a long term deal.

Raiders- Drafting Mendoza

Cards- If they trade Murray, maybe a short term deal with Cousins??? Who knows.

Vikings- They might get another long term qb, in case JJ doesn’t work out. JJ is closer to bustville than breaking out.

Falcons- They are releasing Cousins and give Pennix another go.

I can see teams trading for Murray and signing Cousins. Somebody might sign Wilson as a stopgap. I don’t see anyone wanting Tua.

Re: The annual QB carousel

If I were to predict:

Steelers and Rodgers go one more year. If not I can see the Steelers pursuing Cousins on a 1 or 2 years deal.
Dolphins probably look at a young FA, but could they afford someone like Willis? He's probably done enough to be paid well and Dolphins have Tua's cap money headaches.
Jets probably same as Dolphins so could be competing for the same FA talent pool.
Cards too will probably go young so I'm not sure about Cousins there. I think they could very well try and trade back in rd 1 and pick Simpson.

Rest I agree with.

Welcome to the 2026 NFL offseason. If your favorite team needs a quarterback, I have some bad news.

Because many football fans are just now turning their eyes to the offseason, here's a quick overview. The 2026 NFL draft class isn't particularly strong overall, and it is extremely thin at quarterback. After presumed first selection Fernando Mendoza (Heisman winner, national champion at Indiana and Raiders QB in a little under three months), the best options are Alabama's Ty Simpson and ... probably LSU's Garrett Nussmeier? This class might play out like 2022, when only one quarterback went in Round 1 (Kenny Pickett, No. 20) and only four went in the first two days.

There are some names available in the veteran quarterback market, but those names aren't very exciting. While last offseason included free agent quarterbacks such as (now-Super Bowl champion) Sam Darnold, Daniel Jones and Aaron Rodgers, this offseason's pool includes ... well, Daniel Jones (off an Achilles injury) and Aaron Rodgers (one year older). Because Jones and Rodgers are both strongly suspected to stay with their current teams, the biggest contract might fall to Packers backup and quality spot starter Malik Willis. Or could the Falcons' Kirk Cousins get one more solid contract after Atlanta releases him before the new league year begins March 11? <<<<<<<<<<
