Re: What did you do at work today?
Has anyone worked 8 straight days of 8 hours or more? Just curious.

Re: What did you do at work today?
I sort of had to do that about two months ago. I had my normal five day work week, followed by refereeing two wrestling tournaments (about 9 hours each) on Saturday & Sunday, then another work week which included a 10 hour-long meeting on one of the days. I was freaking exhausted when it was all done.

Re: What did you do at work today?
When I was a bank teller in college one summer we were really short handed, I think I went 3 weeks straight working 10 hr days, 6 days/wk. Made some killer OT but it really sucked.

Yep. Retail holiday season. Both at Target and Toys-R-Us. Nothing crazy ala mredskins but I did make some bank on OT.

If I worked 85 hours one week I made $6.33 a hour! You have to pay your dues in that business I have a few friends that have stuck with it and are in upper management now and they do pretty well but even at their level if you are a manager at Marriott you must work a minimum of 50 hours a week. Even when I got out of operations and was in finance for them I still had to work 50 hours a week at minimum. There were weeks when I was that busy and the time was filled or went over but there were other times when I was done with my work for the day at say 4:30 and I still had to sit at my desk until 6 doing not a fawking thing. It was so lame.

Re: What did you do at work today?
We have one computer operator that only works nights in my office and he seems like an odd duck. Wears a winter coat all year long, along with this average Joe khakis and dress shirt he rocks these crazy ass biker boots that would freak out Michael Myers.

Re: What did you do at work today?
I have had some week long trials where I lived on coffee and sugar. And it's not the trial, it's the week or so before where you have to prep witnesses. Most of the regular day is spent meeting with witnesses, getting the Admins set up with work and then the evenings are spent getting things ready for the next day's prep, drafting motions, etc. etc.
The hardest thing is trying to stay mentally sharp the all the way through the trial. Usually, about half way in, things start humming and, when bad sh** happens, it's pretty much you either did it, prepped for it or you just gotta let it slide. Generally, I just smile and nod as if it's exactly what I meant to have happen. I imagine their are very few "always/always" 9-5 jobs out there and, for people who aren't afraid to work, there's more than enough to do. You just do what you gotta do.

Re: What did you do at work today?
Alright well I guess I have my answer then. Not completely common but it does happen. I was just asking because I'm starting a new job on Monday and had it not been for the Easter holiday I would have worked 8 straight 8 hour shifts.
It's crazy though. For the last 9 months I haven't gotten any calls about potential jobs. Heck I knew the VP of my current company and couldn't even get the VP of HR whom he referred me to to call me back. The last week and a half I've gotten 3 unsolicited calls one of which led to the job I'll be starting Monday at a mid sized logistics firm. Apparently leaving your resume posted and view-able to recruiters on those job sites is a good thing so long as it's well written. Now my friends, many of whom already have jobs, are asking me if I can get them a job. To which I tell them I'll try but based on my recent experience the economy is about to turn the corner. Quote:
The only exception is customer service and sales positions where you're kind of reliant on the customers schedule.
