Re: Skins vs. Cards Positives + Negatives
Amen. It doesn't take a genius to know that a) you run the ball and b) you run it anywhere but behind Chesty and Plumpy.

Re: Skins vs. Cards Positives + Negatives
From CSN Washington:
"RT Tyler Polumbus has given up seven of the team’s nine sacks and a third of the QB hurries the team has been charged with." So, it looks like we're not blowing up the RT problem out of proportion after all. We can all plainly see that Morgan Moses isn't ready but why not give Tom Compton a shot at the job? Poor play needs to become unacceptable on the Redskins team. You play poorly over time and you lose your job.

Unfortunately Redskins park is a place you pick up a check not earn it. If the owner isn't accountable the players certainly won't be.

Re: Skins vs. Cards Positives + Negatives
I guess I'm fine with building inside out--first the front 7, then the DBs. I do think we are better this year with the front 7. Maybe next year, out from cap penalties and the RGIII trade we'll get some serious DBs, especially safety. I actually think Amerson (sp?) is quite good. Wish Phillips could get on the field.
About Haz: meh. I don't think he's very good, but he clearly doesn't have all that much talent to work with. Hard to blitz with a shitty secondary, IMO. And the blitz is the heart of what he does. That's not to give him a free pass, but I'm not sure how firing him is going to change personnel trouble this season. Let him ride it down and get a new guy and some new bodies next season. The O-line remains the saddest thing about this team. Could you imagine if RGIII (or whoever) had time to throw on a regular basis? WIth these WRs/TEs? Oy.

If we had Djax, Roberts and Reed during RG III rookie season his numbers and our wins would have been huge.

No doubt an oline helps but do we have a QB? Most of Cousins int's werent due to pass pro they were due to him. I sure as hell hope Griff has what it takes and stays healthy but only time will tell. |

Re: Skins vs. Cards Positives + Negatives
Those Dline numbers are a bit inflated. We have Cofield and Bowen injured and I believe those two make up 14mil or so of that 26mil figure.
To put it this way, if the front office doesn't spend the 14mil from the Bowen and Cofield contracts and the 11.9mil from the Rak contract next year to shore up some problems in the secondary and along the line then they are a bunch of morons. That is at minimum 25 million to play with on the defensive side of the ball.

A positive? Will Compton in place of Riley. We may have a jack that can actually cover now.

Re: Skins vs. Cards Positives + Negatives
Not sure where to put this, but in today's presser Gruden said that Moses is starting to press Polumbus for the starting job. I'm sure it'll be a while yet before he actually overtakes The Swinging Gate, but this is great news. He was solid against Seattle, albeit in a very short time and minus that one horrible snap. I expect him to be in the starting lineup well before the season's over.

Re: Skins vs. Cards Positives + Negatives
cooley's defense film breakdown said that: (as best i can remember listening in the car)
jenkins and baker did a poor job of taking on their assignments against the cards and basically refused to take on the double team. rak is doing the same power move every single time and that rak appears more focused on getting holding calls then sacks. rak is a pretty good player but not 11 mil type player kerrigan is completely lost on stunt plays. he suggested switching sides w rak. (i personally believe rak tells the coaches he isnt comfortable going from the LE) breeland and amerson are playing how you expect them to. breeland is playing like a 4th round rookie with upside. amerson is playing like a second year player. clark - did not have a good game. poor tackling led to one TD, playing 20 yards off when an all out blitz was called and biggers was left on the right side defending 2 receivers but clark never came up to help at all. merriweather - he is what he is. -------------------------------------- i didnt hear a lot of offense break down but coaching - very bad. they need to give morris 25 plus touches. garcon is poor at getting separation on long pass plays but they keep calling those and not short to intermediate stuff for him. trent - pro bowler caliber effort for a guy who was very much in doubt to play kory - thinks he is a tremendous center, good vocals polumbus - just cannot anchor and gets pushed back repeatedly. for a big guy he should have some pride and not get pushed around. reed- quite amazing. has amazing first step/burst. runs probably the best routes of any nfl TE. was okay in run game. d jax - gave him a low grade despite the big plays. sd his lack of even trying to block is becoming a big problem and its time for someone to say something bc his absolute lack of even trying is negatively effecting the plays/production of other players. also sd the int where we did trips and tried to throw a short screen was absolutely on d jax for not even trying to fight to get into the spot that kirk is expecting him to get to. sd roberts did an okay not-so-great job of screening on that play but d jax didnt even try and he has to at least try and get to the spot to at least break the play up. just left kirk out to dry. morris - was okay but helu had something like 36 snaps to morris' 29 (or some close number). |
