Bill Callahan is pumped. As of today he has his bookend tackles! Do work with them.

Re: 2015 NFL Draft: Round 1

Personally, I'm weary of taking an offensive lineman who won't play left tackle at 5. I hope he works out, but I felt like a RT could be found later, especially with Williams on the board. He better be a beast if we passed on Williams for him.

That said, I like hearing we had him 3rd, even if I think it was a bit of a reach, I'll reserve judgement and trust in our new front office

I would agree here. Many had Williams as the best player in this draft and he was sitting there. Obviously the Skins had BS rated higher. Hard to argue with this pick though. It's fills a need in the worst way. The right side of our line has been Swiss cheese for too many years.

Thing is, if you take Williams, assuming no trades that made sense, then at your next pick, who are you taking? Especially as the draft went, you would go from the top OL guy to a middle of the pack at best. I hate to reference the Cowboys positively, but look what Callahan did there. They invested in OL early and their line is pretty good. I expect Callahan will take Trent and Scherff, and use Moses as the swing backup. Add in Long and our line can effectively maul defenses. I wouldn't be surprised to see a big G/C guy in the 3rd/4th round.

I liked Flowers (didn't like him at 10) and Clemmings enough to pass on Scherff if Williams or Cooper were on the board. I, personally, believed Williams was the best player in the draft. Also, if we're so happy that we have a great OL coach, why not take a project? If technique is the real problem for a guy, why would be have Callahan coach him up?

Look, I'm not totally unhappy, but I think we're going to greatly regret passing on Williams.

EDIT: Also, if the Collins stuff isn't a big deal, you could have taken him in the 2nd or later in the first, if you could find a trade. I just didn't see Scherff as head and shoulders above the other O Lineman and if he ends up having to move to guard (I know that's not the current plan) then this wasn't a very good pick.

We would have gone from the best player available for a deeply needed position to at best the 8th or 9th best and push safety/ilb back even further. All because a guys arm length is 3/4 inch short. We've needed to get a stud for the right side for 3-4 years. This is a step in the right direction

Solid pick, can't go wrong with the best O Lineman in the draft.

Good grief, Chris Russell and Jason Reid are being two turds in the punch bowl talking about this pick on 980. Ugh.

Then they would follow it up with it wasn't a reach and we liked it, but not what they wanted. However, they are not in one of the big chairs like McC.

They are idiots, took serious balls to make that pick also. Sexy players still on the board, and we went boring. Go McLovin!

Randy Gregory and Shane Ray must be nervous wrecks. If only they had a way to relax, take the edge off a little tonight.
