Re: PFT Rumor - Joe Gibbs is Coming Back

I'm not sure Gibbs would be much help to us in that role anyway. He was never very good as a personnel man. What would lead anyone to believe he's got the know-how to point us in the direction of a general manager?

The best thing Gibbs could do for this team is to be on the sidelines with a headset. And that's not going to happen.

Which position? IF he came back (and I doubt he will now) it would be as Team President. He wouldn't be picking the players, he would choose a GM and a head coach. The guy built a championship team in NASCAR, why couldn't he do it in football?

Not to pick on the story, but they say we are 3-3, sadly we are not, they say fans are calling for Zorns job, and while some are, seems like most of the anger is pointed at Snyder and Cerrato. Hopefully their facts with respect to Gibbs are just as accurate.

The article also mentions the Skins are 3-3.

No it doesn't..it states the fact that we are 2-4, and Joe disagreed coaching the Redskins is one of the toughest coaching jobs in the NFL.

I don't think Joe would show his hand if he remotely planned or was even thinking about coming back in any capacity.

Gibbs laughed Sunday at Martinsville Speedway when asked about rumors and Internet reports that he could return to the team as an advisor or even general manager.

He says he disagrees with the idea that the Redskins coaching job is one of the toughest in the NFL and pointed to the Tennessee Titans as proof that success in the NFL is hard. The Titans were an NFL-best 13-3 last season, but are 0-6 this year.

The Redskins are 2-4 entering their Monday night game against Philadelphia, despite having set an NFL record by playing six teams all seeking their first victory.

The start has caused fans to call for coach Jim Zorn to be fired.

Just seems like a sloppy job of reporting

Joe has to be scratching his head.....

He wasn't out the door for 5 minutes and the circus was back in town. Dan and/OR VINNY LEARNED NOTHING! If they would have we would have Gregg Williams here running the show.

Gibbs addresses those Redskins rumors

Joe Gibbs addressed those rumors about a return to football at a NASCAR race Sunday in Martinsville, Va.

He laughed, according to the Associated Press report, when he was asked at Martinsville Speedway about rumors and Internet reports that he could return to the team as an adviser or general manager.

"That's what it is. Talk," he said. "Right here's where I'm GMing."

Gibbs disputed the idea that coaching the Redskins is made tougher by management.

"When I was there last go-round, we had somebody that was a passionate owner, cared about things and supported me in every way," he said. "I think any NFL team, it's tough when you're not winning, and those things are easy to get off. All you've got to do is look around this year and Tennessee and some of the other teams are struggling that were real good last year."

As for NFL teams' fortunes and fan impatience, he said: "It's easy to get 'em off and I think it takes a while to get them straightened out. Hopefully we get it going there [in Washington]. I think it's pro sports. The fans are passionate and they want a winner, but I think that's part of pro sports."

Gibbs being Gibbs, meaning a class act, but too PC during this instance.

Re: PFT Rumor - Joe Gibbs is Coming Back

Maybe its nitpicking but this article talks about Gibbs saying he won't come back to be GM. That was never what the rumors were about anyway...it was about him being President or consultant to hire a GM & coach. So Gibbs could still do all those things in spite of what he said today.

I thought it said advisor or general manager. I'm certain they (Snyder and Gibbs) have been talking recently. More Snyder talking and Gibbs listening, but I still believe he's not coming back.

What's interesting to me though is that in the last 8 months Gibbs has basically told both Zorn and Campbell to toughen up and deal with it.

Why is that interesting per se? Both guys have shown literally nothing this season so I think anybody looking at the Redskins has to say it.

Well there's been a lot of "woe are Campbell and Zorn...stuck with Vinny and Snyder. No one can ever succeed with them"

And Gibbs is saying "Bullshit. You're a QB and a head coach in the NFL. If you can't handle the pressure then get out"

Okay but I was thinking more about what Gibbs said. He was like I am not GMing anywhere but here but he didn't say specifically he wouldn't do anything with the Skins. I don't think Gibbs is the kind of man to give half truth answers like that though so I am sure he meant that he's not coming back at all.
