However on the social issues I'm definately more liberal including marajuanna legalization (even though I don't smoke), stem cell research (an issue that McCain supports), gay marriage (even though I'm not gay), and the banning of ID from class rooms. I still don't know what to think about abortion though right now I'm barely pro-life (51-49). However at the same time I am appaled about how conseratives want to restrict distribution of the morning after pill.

I mean a fetus reportedly feeling pain and crying during an abortion is apalling however preventing conception the day after (or minutes after if you're prepared) is a totally different story and just because some religous nutjobs are using the Bible to reconcile their beliefs doesn't mean the rest of us should suffer in a country who's social views presumeably range mainly from moderate Judeo-Christian to secular humanist (a nicer way of saying atheist or agnostic). In fact I get chills everytime I see the John McCain, Judeo-Christian speech. I wondered if he's that desperate votes or if he's really that nieve when it comes to the history of his own country.

Another funny thing I find about the Republicans and McCain is they want to stop Gay Marriage, yet their most feasable alternative to abortion, adoption, isn't helped by the fact that many foster kids (as many as 100,000 in the US) can't find a home.

Anyway back to my main point. If I read right according to a UN report the United States has some of the highest rates of teen pregnacy and abortions among first world countries especially when compared to most of Western Europe. The abstinence thing is not working and restricting access to contreception and proper sex education isn't helping.

I know some people will find issue with my post and I'm more then willing to debate so long as it doesn't lead to you calling me an idiot for no good reason or typing in all caps. And to think I use to be apathetic those were the days.
What do you mean exactly by McCain wants to stop Gay Marriage?

I appologize, I actually think I went so far as to create a straw man argument (for those that don't know Straw man - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) which is ironic considering that I'm a McCain supporter. For those of you watching McCain does not support a ban on gay marraige, rather he would like to leave it up to the states. As he plans to be the case should Roe vs Wade be overturned. In fact heres McCains views on gay marriage

Ban on same-sex marriage is unRepublican; leave it to states. (Nov 2006)
Voted NO on constitutional ban of same-sex marriage. (Jun 2006)
Voted YES on prohibiting same-sex marriage. (Sep 1996)

On the flip side McCain has said that he does not support Gay Marriage (he does support private ceremonies and legal agreements that help with areas such as insurance)() but he's not going to go so far as to ban it federally. In other words when votes come up to ban it he votes against it. Likewise if votes come up to make it legal at the federal level he votes against it. Basically he wants the states to decide which for a Republican might be a wise political move though I obviously disaprove.

I also advise that anyone looking for a rundown of canidates views on multiple issues to google the canidates name along with "ontheissues.org". Now you could go to the actual site but I find it a pain in the ass to navigate as they don't have a readily useable search feature. Anyway heres McCains rundown.

i think that's pretty common for views, at least in NoVA... it's closest party affiliation would be libertarian. We're pretty close on view too, so, uh... me four.

That is a down right lie about McCain and you cannot find any quotes from McCain saying that about Chelsea.

If he's talking about the "Janet Reno is her father" joke, then I'm fairly certain it's true.

Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly? Because her father is Janet Reno.”

Sen. John McCain, speaking to a Republican dinner, June 1998.

Fine, point out that Obama used drugs as a teen and that Palin's kid is preggers and that McCain killed cats for fun when he was 14 and Obama kicked puppies on Christmas morning when he was 12.

Jimmy cracked corn and I don't care.

I vote on the issues, their demonstrated record of service, and my own personal evaluation of their readiness to command the military. If you're not doing the same, I suggest you get your priorities straight.

Except that isn't Obama the one saying family and stuff is off limits?

I don't think his campaign intends to attack Palin's daughter. Nobody cares if we do it on a message board somewhere, so go nuts. But it's different if a campaign actually goes there.

Obama doesn't want to go there, which is admirable. I wouldn't either, if I were him. More importantly though, I think Obama would hurt himself politically if he did, no question. Even if the race stays close, I don't see Obama and his campaign going there.

OntheIssues.Org is a really good resource, I check it frequently. Anyhow, I just wanted it to be clear that McCain isn't looking to stop gay marriages in that some would take that to mean he's for a constitutional amendment to ban them.
