We dont need a DE we need a another LB I like Dansby from the Cardinals. He is only 28 and Peppers is 30 yrs old. we must remember Fletcher is getting long in the tooth as well. I also would not mind us going after Dunta Robinson CB from Texans. Rogers than can be traded for at least a 3rd and 7th round pick.

Call me greedy, but I want now AND later. The best players on our already fearsome defense are staying. The ones who are in limbo are ALL FILLER to me ESPECIALY Carlos Rogers. Whoever we get on defense needs to be in one of two categories...

Immediate difference makers
Young immediate difference makers

Period. Peppers is neither. He has zero years left of his best years. He may have 2 years left where he plays good enough to start for a team with an average defense. This is going to be expensive and pointless.

I would say that Peppers would be an immediate difference maker. Peppers puts up double-digit sacks almost every year. At LB across from Rak, we would have a devastating rush linebacker set-up.

It seems that a better argument against Peppers is that he will never be able to provide full value for the contract that he likely will be signing simply because no one could ever perform up to such an enormous contract.

I'm not sure Kampman wants to play in a 3-4, I thought he wasn't a big fan of being converted to LB?

Agreed that if he gets a comparable offer from a 4-3 defense, he's going to choose to put his hand in the dirt.

From our perspective though, I think he'd be a good alternative to signing Peppers. But if you're asking me if I think we can get him to come here, I'm not sure we can without vastly overpaying.

The usual cornerback stats are always insufficient because what really matters is often the CB is target and how well he performs with regards to all of those times he's targeted.

That said, I thought that Wilhite kid would be the one suffering the most after last year's preseason game...but he got the starting job from O'Neil.

Wow, Dunta Robinson is on the very bottom of the list. Was he suffering from an injury or somehting?

Well those numbers can become interesting, say you play a bend/don't break D like we have, you'll give up more catches/higher percentage vs thrown at and the like. There are some very clear cut leaders (Revis, Woodson, etc) towards the top of the list, but when you have a guy ranked in the 90s that shouldn't be there you know that stats can't tell all.

Clearing the way for one of the CBs to come here by releasing Smoot?

Dunta has had a couple of serious injuries over the years. Freakish stuff though so I wouldn't say he has a history. Just bad luck.

Smoot's release really just means they're ready to give Tryon and Barnes a greater role
