ST (RIP) did the exact same thing in 06, then he became an all-pro. I don't understand how fans of this team forget these things.

Well why can't Landry be like Orakpo, show up with a good attitude and get the job done from the get go. Honestly, my issue with Landry is his attitude, ever since he was a rookie he had stupid late hit and taunting penalties. How long until he grows up?

That is up to him. ST had a ton of late hit penalties too. I think he had 5 straight weeks of fines, or something like that.

Landry makes the same mistakes that a lot of young players make.

He had a bad third year overall but he did a lot of good things too. It is just at 4-12, it is pretty easy to focus on the negatives.

Excellent post!!My beef with Landry is his attitude. If he keeps up this childish bullshit then he will never live to his potential, basically in getting Mays or Berry you get a talented player without BS. I'm sick of "me" players who hurt the team with their own selfish attitude.

Landry did show up from the get go and played just as good if not better then a rookie Orakpo, especially at the end of the year when he switched to FS. The problem is he's slowly regressed since then, with this last year just being a complete and utter failure.

Personally I think it was a combination of his attitude and Blaches scheme. I'd also like to add that Jackson's coaching seems to have had a negative effect on him but then again Jackson was here for both Taylor and Landry (when he was good). Anyway look on the bright side, even though we missed out on Adrian Peterson we also passed up on Jamaal Anderson.

In the end hopefully Haslett's scheme will get Landry to pick up where he left off during his rookie year.

I certainly haven't nor will I ever forget that about Sean. Laron is no ST. However he's a better player than he showed last year. He needs to a be a SS and not a FS. We shall see what kind of player he is, but I'm down on him for sure right now.

Man I effing hate it when Sean gets associated w/ Landry, but since it keeps cropping up I have to say this:

Sean NEVER avoided contact. He never dove to the turf to avoid making a tackle. He never threw himself out of position at the last second to get out of the way of the ball-carrier. Sean was the fiercest safety in football. Yes he had a down year adjusting to Williams' scheme, but does anyone doubt he would be a greatest if he were alive today?

Most important Sean was a guy we were so proud of to see in the B & G. The dude visited w/ his family in the stands on gameday. His priorities were solid. Sean had already arrived as a person, if not as the player we knew he was becoming.

Tell me what game or games Landry has avoided contact? I know he has taken some poor angles but when has he been afraid to mix it up?

ST's worst year was '06. That was his 3rd year in Williams' scheme.

I have no problem with Landry the person. He is a rockstar and young. In fact, you could easily argue that he has been a better person than Sean was in his early years. Landry has not had any run-ins with the law that I know of.

What has Landry done that is so friggen' bad? I am starting to think that people are starting to hold him to some ridiculous standard because we lost Sean.

(6th overall) pick 2yrs ago for anything less than a 1st round pick...Period

Seems people have forgotten his first 2yrs ...........

Posted 167 tackles, two sacks, two interceptions, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery in two NFL seasons

Named to the NFL All-Rookie Defensive Team as a rookie in 2007

Named a first alternate to the Pro Bowl in 2008 and third alternate to the Pro Bowl in 2007

Recorded the first two interceptions of his career in a Wild Card Playoff game at Seattle (1/5)
You may have a point here. I think he is a heck of an athlete, and most likely playing out of position.

Particularly, the assertion that he's a great athlete that is unfit to play a position with such an athletic premium is kind of mind boggling. Moving him to SS is just one of many ways to simplify his role in the defense (along with pretty much any other change, given the ridiculous amount of responsibility Landry had in the defense), but it's the one with basically no upside.

Re: 2010 NFL Off-Season Rumors and Reports (Week 3)

This free agency period has me thinking that they're going to go OL with the first pick, maybe even the second pick as well as it seems that at least in this initial stage they're playing things close to the vest. Their biggest risk taken right now seems to be a tossup between repainting the weight room and giving Larry Johnson and incentive laden deal.

I see your point on the upside of keeping the superior athlete at FS. Do you think/attribute Landry's struggles to Blache and the secondary coach's tutelage? What I mean is, there were reports last year of Blache asking for Landry to approach situations a certain way and the secondary coaches asking him to do something different. If I'm remembering correctly the safeties and corners attended separate meetings for game planning???

I think they will go with OT with the first pick. Hopefully trade down with the second pick. They have offered contracts to both Simms and Levi, so we will see what happens.

Re: 2010 NFL Off-Season Rumors and Reports (Week 3)

Landry has enormous talent but will never be that good of player. I hate to say this about anyone, but the kid just seems dumb out on the field. He sees to just run around like a chicken with his head cut off. I saw so many missed plays he made because he is always thinks he is the most athletic person on the field (which might be true, but not the the extent that he believes it) and can just go full steam to stop any play. He hasn't developed any football sense because he just relies on his athletic ability his entire life up untill his pro career. Developing a feel for the game does not come naturally, it comes with years of experience, and for him to start learning now would take too long for him to get the hang of it. He will never be a superstar, he can be effective if we ask him to do simple tasks though that doesn't require much of a learning curve.

Holmgren says Cleveland Browns will definitely draft a QB, but probably not in the first couple of rounds

...Holmgren likes Sam Bradford of Oklahoma, but believes St. Louis will make him the No. 1 pick of the draft. Although he said he would consider trading up for Bradford, he knows it's not realistic.

As for the second-ranked quarterback in the draft, Jimmy Clausen of Notre Dame, Holmgren was characteristically honest.

"I wish I liked him more," he said.
"You know how you have a type of player that you like? It's not scientific. People like him a lot. He'll go high. But it would be hard for me [to take him]."

Holmgren does like Tim Tebow of Florida, despite reservations about his throwing mechanics, and has invited him to a future private visit. He intends to do that with "four or five" quarterbacks before the draft.

Holmgren says Cleveland Browns will definitely draft a QB, but probably not in the first couple of rounds | cleveland.com
Interesting quote. The Browns currently have the 7th pick and it seems like they wouldn't consider Clausen. And yet people are talking about drafting him at #4? I know Kiper is high on him, but I hope we don't draft purely on need and overvalue this guy.. If he's truly worth it I'd be excited about it - but seeing experts disagree about his value makes me nervous..
