Re: Huge FA Class in 2011 - But will anyone want to come here?

Redskins' Daniel Snyder, Capitals and Wizards' Ted Leonsis join other Washington team owners at Business of Sports forum
"It may be our money, but it's the fans' teams," he said. "And that goes across the board up here [for all the owners on the panel]. It's the fans' team. We have the responsibility to try to do the right thing. And from my perspective, obviously, people have known I'm aggressive in seeking free agents . . . but we're trying to do the right thing."

I would steer clear of the FA market. Why would anyone want ....say a diva WR from Oakland or a backup WR from Miami? An aging Safety from Indy and a draft flop out of Pittsburgh? Oh wait New England did it and won SB's (plural)
Randy Moss
Wes Welker
Rodney Harrison
Mike Vrabel

My FA wishlist is some of the following:

B Ruud, LB Bucs
S Tulloch, LB Titans
H Ngata, NT Ravens (Prob won't happen)
A Franklin, NT 49ers
D Joseph, OG Bucs
T Clabo, OT Falcons
R Kalil, C Panthers
C Bailey, CB Broncos (If the price is right)
V Jackson, WR Chargers

Are you theoretically speaking of converting Ngata to NT?
He's a DE in Baltimore. And like you said, probably will stay there.

Yeah I know he probably will. And yes, that was what I was referring to, playing NT. Am I incorrect in thinking he used to play NT at one point?

I have the Ravens vs. Titans game in 2008. Ngata was listed at NT that game. He did play some DE in sub packages.

He used to play more NT. He still does sometimes since the Ravens move him around. But now he is primarily a DE.

9 free agents in a single off season? Reading through this thread I would think that some would accuse you of blasphemy. Ok 8 because of Ngata, but the Ravens will lock up a long term deal before the end of the season or franchise him.

Bailey on the cheap would be great. I would be able to wear my #24 jerseys in public again.

I don't think we should do things like that anymore. Champ would have been a great life long Redskin. He would have been great to have around in his prime but that is past. We need the team to grow and excel as a unit. a spark here and there isnt goin to do anything.

We need all young hungry players with homegrown vets who are dedicated to the Redskins growth and willing to mentor the younger guys. A guy like D. Green who till this day cares about the team.

I don't want guys who spent their careers somewhere else anymore. It never works out for us.

If we are going to suffer thru the pains of losing we might as well suffer while knowing we are doing things the right way. In a direction to finally have a winning team.

Just my thoughts on the matter.

Totally!
To many guys came here cashed in and retired.....on the field! Find some younger dudes that are still trying to make a reputation.
Invest in a herd of high quality scouts!
.........unless a non-overthehill vet falls in your lap at a reasonable rate.

Didn't Bruce Allen change somewhere around 21 players in the Bucs' big season?

9 is pocket-lint to him.

Key word in my original post was SOME. I didn't say sign all of them. Just some of the ones I thought could be a good upgrade. But then again, maybe I am going for blasphemous.

Actually that is exactly why I like Bailey. You mentioned the venerable D. Green, Champ was indeed mentored by him. They played in the same secondary, Bailey is a direct link to our glorious past, a coach/ player type role.

Champ isn't going to sign for cheap, and regardless the chances of him coming back is slim to none.
