Re: Redskins 2012 Salary Cap Status

Just did an update (3/19). I've included all the recent signings as well as the $13.6M credit and the $18M charge.

I have us at $4.6M of cap room.

How much of that do you think will be allocated to draft picks? Or is there a seperate pool? I can't remember how that works...

I have not allocated anything to the rookie pool so draft picks will have to be paid out of this $4.6M. Should be able to fit them all in, but won't leave us much $ afterwards. Then again we can still restructure some deals to gain a little more space if needed.

i have no idea how these players feel about restructuring, but i'd prefer that to cutting them: hall, cooley, williams, and sign davis to a long term deal. that should clear enough room to sign the rookies and albright

Halsell said that the Meriweather contract was a five year deal that voids back to two. However, I haven't seen any signing bonus figures on that deal, so I have no idea what the proration bonus is.

I posted this before but it got totally ignored. Isn't the total salary cap $119 million? Doesn't it go to $120.6 million for the 28 other teams because of the $1.6 million they each got from the money that got taken away from us and the Cowboys. Part of the reason they took money away from us was to get the salary cap to a higher place than it was last year and they had to take our money to get it there. I could be wrong but I thought that is how it went.

no, the cap is 120.6, and its 1.6mill higher for the teams that aren't us (or the roids, raiders, saints).

That doesn't seem enough for us to be able to resign Fletcher?

I agree with you but we can still free up some $ through cuts/restructures.

I guess my source was wrong. I was told that after the new CBA apparently Allen and Co. found that the bonuses don't count against the CAP. In other words we sign a guy to a 5 yr 10 mill with a signing bonus of 7 mill..... the 7 mill would not count against our CAP and basically only the 5yr 10mill would which is 2 mill for this year. I was told that is how we were able to sign the players we got after the league took our 18mill leaving us with 18mill to play with.

It made sense because I couldn't figure out how we had not gone over our limit already.
