Re: Kirk Cousins pick 4.7
Skip Bayless is a joke, and has no clue; to subliminally take a racial shot at the fan base/season ticket holders and Shanahan, is out of bounds. We drafted Cousins A) to replace Rex as a backup in 2013 B) To develop him enough to trade him in 2-3 years for a high pick; and C) As insurance and depth for RG3; God forbid RG3 gets seriously hurt and may never play again, we'll (hopefully) have a viable starter in Cousins... You need capable backups that can come in as starters in case one of the 22 gets injured. This is kind of comparing apples to oranges, but who would've thought this time 5 years ago Sean Taylor would be killed 7 months later? Quality talent and depth after your starter, is vital because you just don't know what can happen in the future. QB and S are different in positions and importance, but we still, 5 years later after Taylor, are looking for a starting FS. IF something happens to RG3, we'll have at least have Cousins.

(1) fumbling snaps (?probs w wet ball) (2) trying to force the ball twice into bad reads leading to two interceptions (3) problems throwing fade routes -> another interception (4) losing control/spiking the ball -> 15 yard penalty in redzone Cousins even says, "I'm not RG3".. Watching the Georgia game, Cousins was good - but 90% of his throws were within 10-15 yards, had two picks and one safety from a bubble screen at the 1 yard line. In contrast, I've watched some of RG3's games and they were among the some of the best games I've seen - immaculate deep ball, great accuracy, great confidence, and amazing plays with the game on the line on the national spotlight -- truly an elite athelete *having fun*. I don't think there's ANY competition for starting QB. But we do have a backup with good potential down the road, which is a great thing. With some development with Shanahan, I do think there's potential to sell high & recoup picks. Last edited by ethat001; 04-30-2012 at 10:33 PM. |

All the of it is the same -- given the strengths of Cousins in the words of some of the NFL experts, he should contribute in making the redskins better than it has been whether it is in the meetings or backing up RGIII. Cousins should be able to contribute to the Redskins in ways that Rex Grossman can never do; let's just say I hope Cousins will be able to or he was a mistake to draft. Try twisting the words in those last 2 sentences. Last edited by warriorzpath; 05-01-2012 at 03:12 AM. |

Re: Kirk Cousins pick 4.7
Not a huge fan of the pick. Im fine with going out and getting a quality backup but a 4th round pick is a lot to spend on someone who's value to us is all based on uncertainties. He might see the field IF RGIII gets hurt. He might bring us some good draft picks in a trade IF he gets on the field and plays well, and thats only IF RGIII gets hurt. I'd have rather filled a need in the 4th, lord knows we have many, and waited til the end of the draft to pick up a QB. Would've loved to have taken a late round flyer on Kellen Moore or Chase Keenum and if they didn't work out, then take a QB next year. Kirk Cousins doesn't seem all that special to me that it was necessary we spend our 4th on him. Passing on Kirk wouldn't have hurt RGIII's confidence either.

Re: Kirk Cousins pick 4.7
I've heard someone say that Cousins is more pro ready than Robert Griffin. To me it doesn't matter. I think the draft selection of Cousins was a good and decent one. Does anybody remember what the level of QB was like in 2011 for the Washington Redskins? Rex Grossman was signed to a 1 year deal. That said, RG3 is taken with the 2nd overall pick in the NFL draft because the quarterback play left much to be desired last season. Kirk Cousins was projected to be a second round draft choice. Why was he still there by the early fourth round? No one ever knows how an NFL draft will play out. With a prospect the level of Cousins, you can't pass on him if he's available. So, Mike Shanahan and Bruce Allen decided it was in the best interest of the Redskins to take him. Good bye and good riddance, John Beck.
The draft selection of Cousins in the early 4th round was the right decision for the Redskins. |

Most 4th round picks are lucky as hell to make the squad so how is a 4th round pick "a lot to spend on someone"?

Re: Kirk Cousins pick 4.7
I'm so confused by this so called controversy.
The redskins when the off season began had no long-term solution to QB at any of the 3 spots. Rex couldn't start, Beck couldn't be a back up and there really wasn't a No. 3 last year. So that's two QBs that have to be found this year to be a solution. The ideal QB situation is your starter, veteran and then young development player. It's clear that's exactly what they got with RGIII, Rex and Cousins. So now, if RGIII has some sort of injury, we aren't stuck thinking about just Rex. Do you guys want Rex as your long-term back up? They have someone who is athletic, who was rated very highly (so it was a steal), someone who fits the system, stuck with a BPA mentality... it goes on and on. There is no controversy. They drafted 3 O-linemen and 2 secondary players -- they still met their needs with at least adding some talent. |

I could careless if Cousins or RGIII was our Super Bowl MVP. Let the best man win.

Re: Kirk Cousins pick 4.7
I agree. Bobby Massie was touted as a 2nd or 3rd round talent but fell well short of that... Probably for a reason. Also, from everything that I read, Massie wasn't a ZBS type tackle. The fact that we didn't take Sanders is more surprising to me, but the coaching staff probably didn't think too highly of him. After all, they had a week to scout him in the senior bowl and apparently weren't that enamored.
