Re: Stafford in WFT Plans? He’s Available
I also think the time is now .. not the get crazy and sign Bruce Smith/Deion Sanders type now ... but the find a top 15 QB and add 2-3 starters in FA type crazy.
Chris Russell did give a cautionary tale last night on radio. If you think you found the right guy, you do anything to get him. But youd better be right. Goff - 4 yrs 134M Wentz - 4/128 Jimmy G - 5/137.5 We cant Alex Smith ourselves again. We have to get this right. Lots of options and weighing of pros and cons. |

If you get Stafford, you need to get a LT and LG.
No point in getting him if you aren't going to give him the time he needs to throw deep. |

First thing, what teams will give up first round picks? I’d say Washington, Bears and Indy (last year moved a first for Buckner). Raiders. San Francisco and New England seem to be less willing to move a first...more disciplined and I actually think both will be looking strongly at the draft for QB. Would Denver move 9th overall pick? I doubt it. Who has the cap? Most do mentioned above except Bears...their are over and would take way too much cutting...they are probably out. Denver could cut Kareem Jackson and von Miller to get there. San Fran would cut Jimmy g, no brainer..but they are still kinda up against. Raiders will have to do some cutting, but could get there...and they are up against it as well. I really think it comes down to Washington and Indy. New England isn’t trading a first...San Francisco most likely would not part with a first. I doubt Denver gives up 9th overall. Wildcard could be the Raiders. Bears don’t have the cap room.

If you want to measure Stafford by the Lions success, then maybe Barry Sanders shouldn't be in the HoF?

Anyway, I think people wildly overrate Stafford. Let someone else make the mistake. Back problems scare the hell out of me since I have them myself. I know they're not all the same of course, but I would pass on Stafford at the price that's being talked about.

Put it another way. Look around the NFC East. Possibly with the exception of Dak, would you take Stafford over any other QB in the division? I doubt you say no. |

Re: Stafford in WFT Plans? He’s Available
If they overrate Stafford it is pretty much the entire league that overrates him. At his age the starting point in trades appears to be a 1st and a 3rd. It is going to go up from there.

Re: Stafford in WFT Plans? He’s Available
I’m going to repeat myself for the benefit of simbosargos. Since 2011, no QB has more game winning drives than Stafford.
Matt Stafford is tied for 7th all time, with John Elway, for 4th quarter comebacks.

Same with 4th quarter come-backs. Stafford 31 in 12 years, Carr 21 in 7 years. Both have displayed this ability, but somehow Carr has been overlooked. Yeah, I'd like to see us get Stafford, but Carr wouldn't be a bad get at all, especially considering the likely trade-cost difference. |

It's starting to look like WFT isn't an option for Stafford

Per @MikeGarafolo Jimmy Garapolo is reportedly staying with the 49ers.
WFT Colts Rams In. That. Order.

Re: Stafford in WFT Plans? He’s Available
If we somehow land Stafford, I hope it isn't because we overpaid.
We have a crap ton of needs. Stafford would be excellent, but not after a bidding war for his services. |
