That should if Favre is thinking clearly IMO be a rap! Take the money and call it a career.

WTMJ television in Milwaukee reported that the team offered Favre in the neighborhood of $20 million over several years to stay retired. The Green Bay Press-Gazette reported on its Web site that the team offered Favre "a substantial salary" to stay away. Both reports cited sources close to Favre. But signs still point to the quarterback reporting to Packers camp.
After the meeting, Cook was asked by the media if Favre could be back in Green Bay by Friday and he said that was a good possibility.

"He would love to go back in Green Bay," Cook said, in comments broadcast by ESPNEWS. "I mean, that's why he started working out. But right now, it looks like he'll be the quarterback at Oak Grove High School."
GB should be ashamed of themselves. I can not believe they are offering him a ton of $ to stay home. Unfreakinbelievable.

Paying him to stay home is downright pathetic. And if Favre were to take the money he would look like a fraud. Shame on the Packers for making a complete mockery of the situation.

But I wonder if that $20 mil includes, let's say, the $12 mil he would have earned this year anyway. So in essence, they're only, and I say only, shelling out $8 mil spread over the next several years.

Good point. $8 million over 10 years is less sad (not as sad?), but sad nonetheless. And what's worse is that it's former Redskins great Mark Murphy behind all this. What's most remarkable is that the Packers are so far under the cap, that they seemingly have no problem dedicating a large chunk of their money to tell their best player ever to stay home. Must be nice.

I'm betting if Favre agrees to this, he would take some "unofficial" post within the organization. You know, to justify the $8 mil over 10 years without taking a cap hit. I'm just speculating there, however.

It doesn't matter. You don't pay someone not to play. Awful......just awful. I always liked Mark Murphy but now he just looks like a big fat pussy.

Re: Favre seeks release from Packers (updated)

if they don't think he can still play, they should cut him and let him try and play elsewhere.i can't see him playing for any other teams than the vikings or the bears if the packers release him.if GB thinks that rodgers is a better qb today than favre is,they need to change their nickname from cheeseheads to constipated cheese heads becausethey are so full of shit!!!!

Re: Favre seeks release from Packers (updated)

As much as they don't want to do it, I think it's the only solution that makes sense for both sides. Favre gets the team he wants, and the Packers will at least get something in return instead of releasing him.

I vote for the Bears. That would be fun to watch.

One of our local stations is doing that 32 teams in 32 days thing and one day this week they did the bears and had one of their reporters on the show. He said that LLoyd has looked very good in camp but did ? weather it would carry over into the season.

I was in Milwaukee today, and for some reason, that visual got caught in my head.

Fun stuff.
