Thats what makes it such a tough call for me. I could'nt care less about the $$$ its what we give up on the field that concerns me. Is AH worth giving up Hall, Springs and possibly a chance to get another proven playmaker? Man, I just don't like it. I know he would add excitement but by the time rest of the puzzle is put together and the team gels AH will probably be worthless. We just have other needs that can be filled faster without the big hit of AH. IMO

Re: King predicts Haynesworth to Redskins

We wouldn't have had this issue if we had just signed Justin Smith last year

But seriously folks...the other thing that has to be taken into consideration is the future of two of our interior linemen, Montgomery and Golston. One or both could be gone next year. Surprisingly, I've heard that there's more interest in Golston than Montgomery (who I've heard called a young Haynesworth, both because of his potential and inconsistencies in his dedication). But anyway, it's possible we could lose them...and maybe get a couple of 2nd or 3rd rounders in return.

Do you think that Golston and Montgomery would bring us 2nd or 3rd round picks? These guys are solid, but I don't think they're that good. If a team is willing to give that up, then I'm all for it.

Has to do with Restricted Free Agency tenders. I don't remember the exact amount, but if they were to tender each around $1.5 million then if another team offered a bit higher and the Redskins didn't match within a week then the Redskins would automatically get a 2nd rounder from the team that signed Golston or Montgomery. But sometimes it can be negotiated down (3rd in 2009, 5th in 2010). I've heard of at least 5 teams that are interested in Golston.

If we do lose one of those guys (and the Haynesworth rumor is true), I wouldn't mind it being Golston for a 3rd rounder.

I really hope we can keep them both. Golston is a solid backup and Monty still has a lot of untapped potential.

If we don't sign AH, Monty becomes even more important to me. He has the beef we need up front and if he could just step up and become the player we think he can, it would certainly help this line tremendously. On the other hand, if one of them has to go and we get a 2nd rounder out of it, Ziggy Hood is looking awfully good.

Re: King predicts Haynesworth to Redskins

Both Haynesworth and Canty are just rumors at this point of course. But I will say that beyond JLC, almost no one is saying the Redskins are going to heavily pursue Canty. It's more like a plan B or even C for them. It's smelling more like a case of Canty's camp pushing a rumor to drive up his price.

i hate to see our young guys get away like that, but turning a 5th rounder into a 2nd rounder is still a good value, provided you don't waste the pick.

I agree. It would be nice to see us come out on top like that.

oh yeah, if detriot is serious about haynesworth, that's a really good sign, due to coaching ties to the player.

Apparently I was on to something when I suggested that we should pursue Chris Cantry.

I was thinking about how quickly Detroit could turn around this year. Sign Haynesworth, draft Curry #1 and trade up with us to get Raji. There's a bunch of talented CB's to be had in FA. With Schwartz running the show that would quickly become a top 5 defense.

Re: King predicts Haynesworth to Redskins

Talk about a fan base scorned by the past, most of the comments here are anti-Big Al calling him fat, lazy, often injured, old, past his prime (don't really get those last two) while the Titans message board (Titans Up The Offer On Haynesworth - TitansOnline.com Message Board) is largely filled with pleas for the Titans to ante up and pay the man. It's interesting that fans who've watched a fat, lazy, often injured, old, past his prime player want him back but we don't want that same player.

For the record, I'm not in the pro-Al camp but it's still kinda funny to see the differences.
