C) Is it 100% definite that we will be running the 3-4 this year. Also I wanted to add in that I was watching Inside the NFL tonight, and they had Junior Seau on talking to Warren Sapp. Sapp asks Seau "3-4 or 4-3?" ...seau said 3-4, and he has more experience in the 4-3 than the 3-4. Now thats saying something, if you ask me.

A- I think the reasoning was he didn't do a good job with their D-line. Apparently he didn't get enough out of them, but as some have pointed out there were injuries on the D-line and he had to work with what he had available. All reports are he's a good coach. He just might not have gotten along with the HC.

C- Haslett is a 3-4 guy. Shanahan is bringing in Assistants who work with the 3-4. Shanahan is enamored with the 3-4. My best guess is the 3-4 is a lock. I'm happy with it. "Hopefully" we will finally have an "Attacking" defense vs. the bend don't break BS.

Ok now see we're going after a coach who couldn't do anything with 5 pro bowl lineman, but if he comes here everyone thinks he'll do good with our 1 pro bowl lineman.NO, theres a reason he was fired, and you mentioned it above, that "he didn't do a good job with their D-line. Apparently he didn't get enough out of them". Of course reports from the organization is that he was a good coach, the they want him to get a job. Then again I shouldn't be too mad about this because Haslett isn't any better that guy got fired a lot more.

Haslett has run the 4-3 the past 2 teams he's coached on the saints and rams, so Don't assume that since he ran the 3-4 ten years ago that he'll do that here. Keep in mind everyone that Shanny wanted Zimmer who ran a 4-3 with Cincy and Dallas (Wade Philips brought in the 3-4 to Dallas).

Ding, Ding, Ding. You got it. I think Shanahan was looking for the best available DC. Reports were he even contacted Romeo Crennell and Romeo didn't want to interview. So that might have only left Haslett and Zimmer as coach's that have been DCer's before. I don't know. I might have tried someone who is an Asst. with another team before I went with Haslett, but they didn't. For some reason (and I don't know why) Haslett even with his piss poor record as a DC got a HCing job. He has not done anything remarkable as a HC or DC and he keeps popping up. I guess like everyone else we are hoping for whatever reason he flashes this time.

If all I could present to you was Haslett has run a 3-4 in the past I would agree with you that I'm reaching because he has run a 4-3 before. However with the team picking up assistants that utilize the 3-4 and Shanahan interested in running the 3-4 then I'm leaning toward the fact we will have a base 3-4 hybrid most likely.

I think he's a good choice. Guy definitely deserves another shot as a DC, just maybe coaching here wasn't the best fit.

He also mentioned that "Seattle dline coach Dan Quinn also a finalist and could be a shared job"

What the hell is Pete Caroll smoking - Jerry Gray and Dan Quinn may share the defensive coordinator job? So they would be co-coordinators?

Re: Coaching Staff update

The assembly of the coaching staff is shaping up much better than it did for Zorn...seriously, to come in with the coaching staff already essentially in place? what did we really expect...

Now we know who the man of the house is and he is making sure it looks just the way he wants...as long as Snyder keeps the coaches' salaries under control, I'm liking the decisions

Exactly...the reason Danny charges massive parking fees etc. is b/c he pays these outrageous contracts to players/coaches who don't deserve it. Put a good quality on the field and I'll be happy to pay but no thanks till then.

Re: Coaching Staff update

Not a ton to add. I really like the direction of the coaching staff. I wanted Zimmer, but switching to the 3-4 probably wouldn't have been something he would've wanted to do again. I'm fired up about Spanos and Turner and really really like the Shanahans running the O.

Pretty pleased with the way this whole thing has gone so far.

I'd love to see April, but if that doesn't happen, I'd prefer to get rid of Danny Smith. I could live with Smith, however.

Re: Coaching Staff update

JLC has reported that Danny Smith is being retained as Special Teams Coach. This means we have atleast one more year of ARE returning punts. Hooray.
