Re: Jimmy Clausen has met with the Redskins

This is exactly what the Redskins should do, follow the Dolphins example:

If you look at what Bill Parcells and the Dolphins did when they first got to South Florida, they took the best left tackle in the draft in Jake Long. He'll likely start at that position for the next eight or nine seasons. They eventually selected Chad Henne, but the Dolphins didn't rush the process. It was Chad Pennington who led the team to the playoffs in '08.

Taking Clausen in the first round might be the most exciting move the Redskins could make, but acquiring a cornerstone of the offensive line will provide a better foundation. You guys on board with Okung at No. 4 or do you want Clausen? Use the "comments" section to answer The Big Question.

Re: Jimmy Clausen has met with the Redskins

Difference is Jake Long wasn't just the best OT in the draft, he was also one of the best OTs in a while. Okung isn't quite as dominant

It is also true that the Fins finished 7-9 last year in part due to struggles at the QB position. Their recipe is a good one but not foolproof.

Re: Jimmy Clausen has met with the Redskins

this is a very deep draft for OTs. i think as long as we nab one with LT potential in the first two rounds, we'll be ok. ideally, we can trade down and get another 2nd rounder. however, if we're stuck at 4, i think were much better off drafting okung than reaching for clausen. as of right now, those seem to be the two most popular theories.

what would really be interesting to see is if bradford, okung, and clausen were all gone before we picked. (with buffalo trading up for clausen). in that case, we likely wouldnt have anyone offering to trade with us, since both of the elite DTs would be available. i wonder what we would do if that scenario played out.

They also picked up some wins until the rest of the league figured out what the heck they were doing lining up their RB at QB and QB at WR. Just like a new pitcher from Japan, the second time the opponents face him, they're not quite as confused and his ERA goes up.

I still say trade down, get more picks, draft a OT and OG with the first 2 picks, find a QB in the 3rd (if we get a pick) or 4th round.

I there's a guy playing in the NFL right now, who would you guys compare Clausen to. I'm talking size, physical ability, and football acumen.

Any names come to mind?

Really? I heard doubts about his ability to play LT in the NFL due to a perceived lack of foot quickness. Not overwhelming doubts mind you but there were a few experts that thought he might be a hair to slow to be a dominant LT.

Physically smaller Phillip Rivers, with a slightly stronger arm.

Clausen will be there for his Pro Day, but won't be working out

He's waiting till Apr 9th and will be working with Golden Tate

Alex Smith can not play under center. They tried, and Singeltary said f*ck it and instituted the spread offense because the guy is hopeless under center. Alex Smith is very inefficient at reading defenses and getting rid of the ball quickly whenever he's blitzed. Clausen on the other hand, the kid is money when it comes making quick decisions whenever he's under pressure, and he's deadly accurate on short, medium, and deep range passes. He's also has the deep-out patterns mastered.

He's going to be our QB, everyone should just start getting use to it. However, I like it that our base isn't going gaga over him, that way when he comes to Washington he'll have to earn the respect of his team and the fanbase.

Vinnie (Look-inna-my-eyes) Cerrato has a new title: Count!

Count Look-inna-my-eyes!

He's in the Clausen corner.

As if this is any news, and of any real value.

Re: Jimmy Clausen has met with the Redskins

this kind of reminds me of when everyone was all over Ricky Williams jock then come draft day Indy picked Edge over RW. Maybe the Rams are in love with Clausen.

Vinny's not a bad talent evaluator. The thing is that he's horrible at putting a team together. Everything from a culture that overpayed outsiders, failed to hold players accountable, and a coaching staff that was hand tied by players circumventing their authority. Then the propensity to overdraft skilled players it's no wonder this team was such a mess. It was a miracle that Gibbs was able to put together two winning seasons. However from a scout perspective I feel Cerrato is decent.
