Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach
Something is clear to me over the past couple years is that Mike Shanahan has lost his balls at some point. No balls to fire a unproductive defensive coordinator when it was clear when he wasn't getting the job done. No balls to fire a DB coach (slowik) when it was apparent he sucked, so he moves him over to LB coach, where they suck worse than the DBs now. No balls to tell a over the hill LB to kick rocks when he wanted some stupid contract in the off-season. No balls to tell his franchise QB he needed to sit when it was apparent he was injured.
It's also clear that Shanahan doesn't need to final decider on decisions. Not sure I have ever seen a coach be a effective GM/Coach at the same time. Mike's ego has been his downfall in Denver, and it's going to be his downfall here. It's a shame to see such a good coach, do himself in due to ego. There is a report (from WSJ I think) about how ultimate power made people stupid. It takes a special person to be able to step back and reflect on what made them get to that point to begin with. I think Mike needs to read the article because I've seen much stupidity spread throughout his teams in terms of how they play and the composure they play with. His teams have been undisciplined and it seems the players have no fear when they don't perform. Three personal fouls last night and 8 penalties overall is the theme of this team. It's time for a change. In a perfect situation, we'd strip Mike of his executive position, fire Kyle, Burns, Slowik, and Haslett, while allowing Mike to continue coaching. We all know this isn't going to happen because Mike and Kyle are a package deal, and no way is he going to take for his power being diminished. That said, time to bring in some new blood. Somebody who isn't so ego driven that he can't allow others to assist him to greatness. Somebody who's willing to make tough decisions when necessary and cut/bench players regardless of how much of a fan favorite they are.

I am excited to see what Allen and Shanahan will do with the full cap. Haslett and the D are a liability and he needs to go, but the offense is one of the better in the league, stat-wise and that's with Griffin's slow start. Give the Shanahans another year with a full cap and competitive roster at their disposal. We can score points. We can't stop anyone though. The overhaul needs to be on defense but we can finally afford some WRs and hopefully a new line to protect Griffin. Amazing, we have the best running game in the league but they can't protect on pass plays to save their QB's life.

Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach
Thought? Kubiac is rumored to get fired after this year.... would he make much of a difference on offense to help this team? somehow?
Defensively the whole coaching staff needs to go. Bring in someone new whom you would not mind taking over the reigns as HC after MS's 5th year if need be. Why? cause no quality DC is going to take a 1 yr deal. They want stability. Knowing they might be the next HC might bring someone in. |

Bring in Kubiak as OC or Asst. OC or something. Bring in Alex Gibbs as OL coach again. LOL. Who knows maybe Alex Gibbs would be willing to try and put this team together right again like they did in Denver with mobile Elway.

Let's bring in the only coach in the NFL doing a worse job than Shanahan. That will turn us around!

Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach
I'm baffled anyone still wants anyone named Shanahan coaching this team...just baffled.
In four years Shanahan has recruited or developed just one starting caliber WR, Peter Boy, though he probably overpaid. Every other WR has been a bust, especially with Morgan being a huge cost to the team/cap. In those same four years Shanahan has recruited or developed maybe two starting caliber offensive linemen, Trent and Kory IMO. Defensively, he's brought about the worst four year defensive stretch I can remember in team history, so since the early 80's when I started following the Skins. It's really hard to find a worse coach in football today. Kubiak maybe but I give him some leeway given the health issues.

Honestly I agree, there should be no way they bring this staff back, Mike now has 3 losing seasons out of 4

Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach
They were playing lousy before that, so do you just not want to pick on him? Is that why you're giving him leeway?

He also produced really good teams in the last decade. Deserves quite a lot more leeway than Shanahan IMO. Same goes for Mike Smith. Doesn't sound like he's on the hot seat though.

Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach
I have a question for the crowd that wants to retain Mike Shanahan but force him to completely rebuild his coaching staff and strip him of his personnel duties. That question is: what is the difference between that and the complete rebuild you are avoiding? What advantage does this team gain by keeping Shanahan but none of his hires?

Re: Choose Your 2014 Redskins Head Coach
Starting over is hard to do. We have to buck the trend and stand behind our coaching staff through the fire. Maybe Shanny is not the answer... if he isn't the Redskins need to bring someone in young enough to stick around and grow for the long run. Don't make decision based off fan and media opinions.
