We have a crap ton of needs. Stafford would be excellent, but not after a bidding war for his services.
Whatever team lands him will over pay - that is the market.

With so many holes we are not in a position to overpay for Stafford.

This board is all over the place in one thread we are mourning the fact that our uber talented draft guru left after 3 of the best drafts in the NFL where he was only overruled on the QB. In another thread people argue we have so many holes we can't afford to overpay for Stafford.

The truth is we are in a pretty damn good place. We have holes, but KS did a good job of finding players through the draft and the holes we have are manageable. Our cap, even with losing a QB early in his contract, is in the top 10 of the league, and we have a lot of young players to watch. We won't keep them all, but we should have a strong nucleus to watch and enjoy for years. Thank Goodness!!

Seems like the Rams and SF rumors may have been smoke to try and raise the bidding. Maybe one of them finalizes the trade but SF for sure could have had the deal reviewed and done if they were committed to an at any cost trade.

Does Stafford have a no trade clause? If not, his wants aren't very important to where he gets traded. Unless he specifically says he ABSOLUTELY DOES NOT want to be traded to WFT, we have just as good as a chance as anyone else.

He doesn’t, but do you want to take a chance that he doesn’t resign? (his contract is up in two years I believe)....it is widely assumed that a contract extension will be part of the trade. That won’t happen if he’s traded to a team he really doesn’t want to go to.

We are improving, have McLaurin and cap space. Don't see any reason why Stafford wouldn't want to play here long term. I'd still trade for him for 2 years. But the team can have those conversations before any trade. A contract extension is not a deal breaker imo.

Oh for me it is. For what it will cost to land him, I'm not willing for it to be a 2 year rental. At least a four year deal has to be a part of the team/player negotiations.

I hear what you’re saying, but I’d have a hard time trading anything of value for a two year rental. He should want to come here because we will actually build around him and already have a better D than he ever had in Detroit. But who knows?

And a better run game.

It is not uncommon for a team to want assurances for the ability to extend a player when working out a trade.

Regardless of whether we sign him or not I am impressed at the lack of "sources" about the WFT intentions. It is frustrating as a fan to not know, but it is definitely a more professional feel.
