I think it a good move. I hope he learns how to play DE in the NFL front the Vets and brings a much needed speed from the edge on passing downs, while haynesworth crashes the middle. As an offensive coordinator I would be having fits planning for this defense.

How can you post a poll about a player we picked up 3 days ago, that hasnt played a snap in the NFL, and "don't know yet" isnt an option.

We grade draft picks all the time how is this any different?

Don't like it? Don't vote. "Don't know yet" is a cop out, throw out an opinion that's what we're here for, no?

You're right. A conditional yes then, if he's playing 18-20 years olds in a below average college conference next year, then he'll be the 2nd or 3rd best DE in our college conference.

Huh?

He was in the SEC last year, this year he will be in the toughest NFL division. I missed a step somewhere.

Re: Redskins Select Jarmon in 3rd Round of Supplemental Draft

I believe it was a good move. I think Jarmon can play and the important thing is that this wasn't trading a draft pick for a 30+ year old player. Jarmon came out of college because he tested positive for a banned diuretic. Hell, Luis Castillo went in the first round of the draft after he used PED's a few years ago. I don't believe there are any red flags in regards to Jarmon and he may be able to contribute some this year, but he should be a much larger contributor next year (which would have been his rookie year had he stayed in school).

Re: Redskins Select Jarmon in 3rd Round of Supplemental Draft

I think this is a good move with small risk. Who knows what round he WOULD've been drafted in.. If he was allowed to play, then he could have had a *great* year or a really crappy year. Nevertheless, his predictions were for a third round pick, right?

Well, here are the third round DE picks over the past few years:

Quote:
2009
3 4 68 Jarron Gilbert Bears San Jose State
3 6 70 Michael Johnson Bengals Georgia Tech
3 7 71 Matt Shaughnessy Raiders Wisconsin
2008
3 3 66 Kendall Langford Dolphins Hampton
3 9 72 Chris Ellis Bills Virginia Tech
3 17 80 Bryan Smith Eagles McNeese State
3 29 92 Cliff Avril Lions Purdue
2007
3 1 65 Quentin Moses Raiders Georgia
3 20 83 Charles Johnson Panthers Georgia
2006
3 27 91 Frostee Rucker Bengals USC
3 28 92 Jason Hatcher Cowboys Grambling State
2005
3 10 74 Justin Tuck Giants Notre Dame
3 28 92 Vincent Burns Colts Kentucky
2004
3 1 64 Darnell Dockett Cardinals Florida State
3 25 88 Darrion Scott Vikings Ohio State
3 28 91 Tony Hargrove Rams Georgia Tech

DraftHistory.com
Justin Tuck is a star, but it seems like in general third round DE's are hit or miss. Time will tell if it was a good decision or not - but I guess if he turns out halfway decent we've gotten value for our 3rd round pick. And he sure has a great situation being next to AH/AC/Rak..

The flip side is -- are we expecting too much for a DE that was only expected to go in the late early rounds. Of course draft predictions are crap, so we'll never know where he would have been drafted.

Re: Redskins Select Jarmon in 3rd Round of Supplemental Draft

very good article, nothing earth shattering, even I like these two quotes from it:

Quote:
Making the safe assumption that both Jarmon and the team's first-round pick, defensive end Brian Orakpo, sign contracts soon,
I just like that it is seen as a safe assumption, and hope to see both sign early this week.

and about Snyder:
Quote:
Zorn says. "That's what really has been wonderful about Dan Snyder. He really has been willing to step up and say, 'Yeah, I'll do this.'

Re: Redskins Select Jarmon in 3rd Round of Supplemental Draft

I just love that this guy gets an entire year dedicated to gain muscle and work out in the weight room. We don't really need him to do anything this year unless the unthinkable happens to our LDEs.

I wonder -- suppose Philip Daniels goes out again (knock on wood), and Wynn is not on our roster because we have too many DEs. I'm assuming they would start Orakpo at LDE, right? Or would Jarmon get the nod?

I know this wasn't an option for him, but I think Jarmon would have developed faster by playing his Sr. year in the SEC as opposed to not playing much with the Redskins as a rookie.

Anyway, Orakpo kinda, sorta already IS our starting LE, but nominally, they are calling him a linebacker.

When the TE is on the right side, the LDE tradionally lines up on his outside shoulder, but in our base scheme, we've got an extra guy over there to prevent teams from getting to the edge on us in the running game. That's the Daniels/Wynn/Jarmon role.
