Re: Coaching Staff update

I'm thinking ARE may have been one of those players going behind Zorn's back to lobby for playing time. There's no other reasonable explanation as to why they continued to trot him out there to fair catch or have balls bounce off his grill.

He went behind Smith's back to go to Zorn. I wouldn't even say it was behind his back per se. Smith tried a couple of times to bench him, thought he had. ARE decided to take it up with the head coach and plead his case and Smith was overruled.

Not Redskins related but apparently Perry Fewell will be the new Giants DC

Heard the name Jedd Fisch-current OC at the U. of Minnesota mentioned a couple of times as a possibility for the Redskins. Not sure in what capacity.

Looking at Fisch's history he worked with Baltimore as a WR's coach in 04-07. Then worked in Denver in 08 as the WR coach. Maybe he worked with Shanahan?

Here is a brief outline of Fisch's career.
  • 2008 - Denver Broncos wide receivers coach
  • 2004-2007 - Baltimore Ravens quarter back and wide receiver coach
  • 2001-2003 - Houston Texans as defensive quality control
maybe if Mann doesn't pan out.. or something else? QB coach?

also a rumor of him going to Seattle to be QB coach under Bates who was at Denver

Latest Jedd Fisch rumor | StarTribune.com

and since I don't know much about him and am guessing that not many others do either:

Jedd Fisch...Get to know him - The Daily Gopher

Re: Coaching Staff update

Fact is Smith is a quality ST coach in this league. 3 teams have already been turned down to interview him.

I guess I could be wrong, but if I had a coach and might have an opportunity to get a better coach but it's not a sure thing then I certainly wouldn't let my only coach I have on hand go interview for other jobs. My luck the coach I wanted (April) would either decline the job or decline the interview (as I've heard has happened) and lose out on my only coach I already had (Smith).

The Skins did the same thing with the DC spot. They had Gray, interviewed Haslett, and wanted to interview Zimmer. Zimmer didn't happen, leaving Gray and Haslett. It wasn't until Haslett was signed that Gray was free to interview for other jobs, ie; Seattle.

Of course the Skins are covering their bases, my point was that he has some solid interest from other teams around the league. He's a good coach, that's all I'm saying.

I know. I keep hearing so much BS out of the media now. First it was Snyder's interested in April. Then it was a meeting is set up for after Pitt and SF. Then we hear he is in Cali for a speaking engagement to follow his interview with SF. Yesterday no meeting has been scheduled. Yesterday it was April wants too much money. Today its he may have canceled his interview with the Skins. Only to see another media person write April has a meeting set up.

If he has not said "no" to the Skins and is willing to interview they need to get him.

I don't care what JLC says about Danny Smith, he never was right about anything redskins from the time he was with the washington post

he reported just about every other hire we've made hours/days before we found out about it elsewhere. no reason not to beleive that.

Re: Coaching Staff update

I wanted April myself...but more importantly I now trust the Redskins decision makers so Smith is fine with me.

I think ARE was our main special teams problem and it seems to be unclear if keeping him back there was even Smith's decision.

No, there was also the issue of whoever we put back there didn't get far either. Ever see Moss run a punt back for a TD lately? Um, No. Ever see Thomas run the KR back for a TD? Um, No. It's obvious that part of the problem is the scheme.

Even with Moss back there, it seems that we didn't do a good job blocking for the punt returner...like Moss or Thomas didn't have a chance to run it back.
