It makes sense if they really wanted Eric Berry.

In 2009: -4th Overall Pick, Aaron Curry, signed a six-year, $60 million contract including $34 million guaranteed. -13th Overall Pick, Brian Orakpo, signed a five-year deal worth $20 million , which includes $12.1 million guaranteed. -17th Overall Pick, Josh Freeman signed a five-year, $26 million contract, with 10 million garaunteed. So, if the move was motivated by not wanting to pay "1st round money" to 2 players, how is it logical to pay one player more than $10million garaunteed MORE to ONE player? Just admit that you did the move to help the skins and we'll move on no one wants a safety that bad. Ever. especially when they have more pressing needs. The 49ers need STARTERS at right tackle and cornerback. While safety is definitely a need for them, they have two promising young safeties on the roster already. Still, they don't have anyone to play or RT or start opposite Clements, who has himself lost a step or two. At t his point, the 49ers wouldnt trade up for anyone, especially not Berry.

^ you are really making this more complicated than it needs to be... let it go this mock draft is for fun bro. None of us actually are in the teams real war room.
secondly it's about equal when you consider the math on the deal if Orakpo and Freeman had a 6th year on their deal the figures would be close.

we also don't know what a safety's contract would be at that pick. He won't be making Linebacker money that is for shore.

I like how many people is trying to make excuses and justify a trade that the only real reason is it helped the redskins in a redskins forum

Re: Warpath Mock Draft - Start Time 3/15, 8am
Would it have made a difference if diehard had traded up to get Okung and then he winds up with a top flight corner at # 37, filling SF's two biggest needs with quality starters?

i don't mean to be overly hard on you - its just the only trade we've had so far and it involves the redskins and doesnt make much sense from the perspective of the 49ers. kinda broke the realism of what we were going for, atleast for me. Now, if Al Davis were owner of the 49ers, it would be another matter entirely. i'd be applauding your skills at impersonating the madman. On that note, GTripp made far too sensible of a pick to accurately portray what the Raiders would do. If I had been Oakland, I would have drafted Tebow with that pick, LOL.

A HC who was one of the greatest defensive players in league history drafting one at #4 is not that far-fetched. Maybe they wouldn't trade up, but if they think he's the next Ronnie Lott and fear he'll be gone...crazier draft trades have happened. As others said, a safety at #4 will be cheaper than a QB or RB, or even LB.

Re: Warpath Mock Draft - Start Time 3/15, 8am
yeah buster but in both cases you didn't trade 2 first round picks to get those Safetys.... he's not saying Berry isn't worth taking at #4 he's saying he isn't worth trading 2 high 1st round picks 2 get him like I've said... an also agree with him that it just took realism of what you guys were trying to do with this mock draft and acting on the best interest of every franchsie.

Re: Warpath Mock Draft - Start Time 3/15, 8am
I see it the other way, no surprise, that people who are ready to bash the Skins, fail to acknowledge that that trade could happen given the teams involved, and that surprise trades happen in alot of drafts. Did anyone expect Cleveland to be able to trade back MULTIPLE TIMES last year? If you look at the trade as it occured it really took the Skins out of the hunt for a qb, which many would say was not in the Skins interest, and yet it gave them two tackles, which was in the Skins interest. Trades happen when both sides think they gain, and in this case a S like Berry could very well attract a trade in the 1st round.
