Hopefully they're looking to draft a safety as well and Branch would just be a backup.

Branch is obviously a potential depth move and nothing more. Nothing to get crazy about.

Although dead, John Wayne would provide an upgrade to our safety play.

The main event will be the signing of the FA who will become our starting FS. That won't be cheap.

So ... any thoughts as to whether (1) Curtis Lofton would be an upgrade over Perry Reilly? and (2) If so, would he be affordable.

Everyone is better than Perry Riley, I was looking at Malcolm Smith and wondering if he could make the switch inside.

Re: Who should we go for in Free Agency?

Saints are 23M over the cap without a lot of room to restructure. Going to have to cut some decent players. (Lofton, Grubbs, Evans, Colston, Bunkley) I think Lofton is the only one I would be interested in ... if he is affordable and still has gas in the tank.

If they cut Grubbs or Evans, certainly would be worth a look.

They have more urgent needs than ILB, I would go with Will Compton if you want to replace Perry Riley- I would take Grubbs on a short term contract, he is very durable, and probably has 2 or 3 good years left.

Agree. Lofton was aweful last year, no way is he an upgrade. I dont think we want anyone from that Saints defense. thats the last place we should be looking.

Agree with pretty much everything Tandler says here.
