CSN says the Redskins did NOT try to sign Baker

Redskins did not attempt to re-sign Chris Baker, according to Baker and others | CSN Mid-Atlantic

We are a weaker team today compared to pre March 7th.
Allen, Gruden and Snyder front office are off to a bad start.
I am not happy with this FO arrangement.
We have a business man, contract negotiater and a pass happy offensive minded coach picking our roster. Our defense went from bad to worse. Our d line is worse and Swearinger is not the answer. I saw too much of him here in Houston. He is slow and gets beat deep all of the time. Liability.
What the fuck is going on in Washington.

So far per Peter King they are following McC plan in Free Agency:

Washington Redskins a mess again; NFL free agency notes | The MMQB with Peter King

While McCloughan hasn’t been involved in any Redskins’ decision over the past two weeks, the team has followed his board early in free agency—safety DJ Swearinger and defensive tackles Terrell McClain and Stacy McGee were high on his list as he emphasized rebuilding the defense up the middle. Washington landed all three of those guys. And the draft board, while subject to change, also was set before he left.

Yup, up the middle is where we need to grow. I just hope who he brought in can deliver....but if they were McC guys, I feel much better. Would like to see that ILB position upgraded.

I hope we get Pryor, I don't even know if he would work but it give me something to be happy about this off season. Good god, this is miserable.

Swearinger had a great year last year.
And nobody feared Baker, he wasnt a big deal.
I dont get all the angst over him.
We need to rebuild our d line anyways.

Half the reason Baker looked so good was because everyone around him was sooo bad. He was the only tiny bright spot in a black hole.

good point. He seemed to disappear a lot, much like the rest of the D. Sounds like this decision was made long before McC disappeared himself. I'm ok with what they have done so far. I'm hoping they make a push for Poe, Hankins, Hightower.

Wonder if they will hang on to Sullivan...would probably be a good idea.

Last season journeyman DJ Swearinger played on one of the top NFL defenses and for one of the top Defensive coaches Bruce Arians. Cardinals will still be good on defense. Swearinger, not so much.
Before last year Swearinger was considered a big hitter and not much else. Slow and was susceptible to get beat deep.
He did not get an extension from Cardinals before Free Agency. His three former teams were content to let him go.
Swearinger will not be protected like he was with the Cardinals. He will be a liability.

Baker was our best interior D lineman by far. Not even close
So you "rebuild your D-line" by keeping the turds and not signing your best guy? You call that rebuilding? Rebuilding would be the opposite. keep the good ones and get rid of the turds.
The decision to release Baker was about age and cost, not ability.
The two replacements are young and IMO not as good.
“Baker is better,” said the NFC defensive coach. “More expensive, but stronger.”
Said in this article.

I thought exactly same thing about Swearinger when I first saw the news, until I read more about him and turns out he has been steadily improving in coverage and PFF actually rated him positive for both coverage and tackling.

I wonder if this whole situation with Scot did not happen and Scot is still our currently GM - would you have thought exactly same opinion you just wrote? After all, one report states that Scot created a free agency board of players we should attempt to sign few weeks before this terrible situation occurred. Per the report, Scot is high on those three players we just signed. I cannot find the report, I guess it's like finding a needle in haystack after all reports about Scot and Cousins situations.

It's funny that you mention this, because to me all these signings are very similar to the signings that Scot has done in the past.

Terrelle Pryor just signed a one year $8 million deal with the Redskins as per NFLN.

Washington giving WR Terrelle Pryor a one-year, $8 million deal, per sources.
