I'm sure it's not lost on anyone that the Redskins stand to lose in a single offseason: Cousins, Grant, Murphy, Galette, Breeland, Fuller, Hall, and Brown. We will also finally feel the total affect of Scott M being gone as well. Didn't we learn a lesson last season letting half the offense walk?

I thought the method of building a winner was continuity and drafting, cultivating, and KEEPING your own talent? Instead, we let Murphy, Breeland, and Fuller (young talent we drafted) go to perform in their prime for some other team. It's beyond me why we haven't made more of an effort to nail down Brown and/or Galette. We're also hearing that Cravens is being shopped.

I know we cannot see what's happening behind the scenes, but from where I'm standing other teams are aggressively working to get better this offseason while the Redskins sit on the sidelines watching talent walk away. You'd figure a team that had a 7-9 season last year, and their division rivals winning a SUPERBOWL would be moving a little harder.

Instead of getting younger, we're getting older. Smith is 5 years older than Cousins, and (if we sign DRC) he's pushing 32 years old....no thanks.
Welcome. You need to ground yourself in the realities of the salary cap.

The Redskins currently have $21M in cap space. Murphy signed for $7M per year, Breeland signed for $8M, Grant for $7M, Niles Paul for $2.5M, and Spencer Long I'm not clear on what he's getting from the Jets. But point being, with our cap space, you could have kept Murphy and Breeland, and then had just enough to sign your draft picks. But that's it. Like completely it.

Reality is every one of those guys got more money than they deserved. We can replace them very well by patiently waiting and spending a fraction of what it would have cost to keep them.

The team was wise not to pay those prices. The Ravens will find themselves cutting Ryan Grant in two years. You can take that to the bank.

Just gonna take the worst thing to excercise, patience.
Agreed.
20M left is good but we can't go crazy.

My guess is we sign a MLB and a DT and draft RB, G, defBPA (including a CB) in no particular order.

I hate we let Breeland walk, especially when he signed for 8M/y... but our secondary should be fine Swearinger&Nicholson safeties, Norman&Moreau outside, Dunbar&Harvey-Clemons rotating of nickel formations. A low profile FA signing and/or a late draft pick would and we're of.

My only real worry is who could we trade down with?

Teams are always moving up and down, never know what team might be extremely high on a guy that they have to have and move up for. Happens just about every year, even for non-qbs.

Good.
Depending on how FA goes, I think it'd be a smart thing to do.

This is NOT the definition of STABILITY or CONTINUITY.

Drafting can’t be going that bad when most of our 2014 class just got signed away all getting nice pay days

... and let's review:

Murphy - Back up OLB, now getting paid starting money.

Long - solid player, no superstar. Had been replaced by Roullier at center and Scherff at RG. Probably a transitional starter for at most another year with Roullier taking over and Long becoming a back-up.

Breeland - Starting corner, up and down career, getting solid starter money.

Grant - 4th string WR now getting paid starting money.

So we lost two so-so starter and two good back-ups and all got solid starter money. I mean, sure, it would be great to have them back particularly Murphy and Breeland, but that's the nature of the game these days. Teams with good talent have their back-ups poached by others willing to overpay them.

We have young back-ups for all but Long and I suspect we will find a plug and play vet to serve in his place.

I would point you to the thread I just started in the drafting section. Our past 5 drafts have been rock solid. The thread lists the drafts from 13-15, and barring ridiculous injuries the players have been solid NFL caliber, either here or on another team. I double checked 16 and 17 and while both drafts are early, 17 looks freakishly good with our current college scouting staff:
Jonathan Allen, Ryan Anderson, Fabian Moreau, Samaje Perine, Montae Nicholson, Jeremy Sprinkle, Chase Roullier, Robert Davis, Josh Harvey-Clemons, and Joshua Holsey

and 2016 with Scot is looking average to OK too: Fuller, Ionaiddis were strong positives Doctson, Craven, Sudfeld are average. That is the first 5 picks.

Just seems a cop out to say the Skins are bad at drafting.
