jsarno, landry and arch are totally different styles. u see, landry actually excells in coverage while that was archies weakest aspect.

I agree it was Arch's weakest attribute.
Let's not forget, that while people think he (Landry) was good at coverage in college, not all talent translates to the NFL.
There is no doubt this kid has talent. Let's hope he's a good compliment to Taylor.

Bottom line, we all are disgusted with having traded away picks for Duckett and Lloyd.

Re: The Official 2007 Draft Discussion Thread

...Since being named Freshman All-American in 2003, the four-time All-Southeastern Conference selection has not only garnered quite a few postseason honors during his college career, but has also given opposing offensive coordinators nightmares. Landry did not allow a single touchdown reception during his career while producing 15 turnovers...

Re: The Official 2007 Draft Discussion Thread

I would make a good bet Landry starts come September as long as he has a high learning curve when it comes to picking up the game at the pro level. To throw away a #6 pick and automatically say he isn't starting is moronic on Gibbs part. What if we picked up Gaines, Branch, etc? Are you telling me Gibbs wouldn't even think of starting those guys over the sorry ass geezers we now have on the D line? Landry has all the potential to become another impact player for us the same way Champ, Fred, and now Sean were/are for us coming straight from the draft.

Re: The Official 2007 Draft Discussion Thread

What I am saying is that there are multiple avenues to addressing the DLine. There was only one position that we could have drafted Landry, and that was with the sixth pick. I still do not agree at all with people who think that that pick could only have been used on DL to be effective. The proof is in the pudding that there were no viable trade partners for us. The FO made a wise decision selecting Landry. If someone wants to wager on the first two years of LL versus any one DL that we could have chosen at six, just name your price, and you're on. That's how much time JG has left to try and win this thing again. The only guy that I really would have thought about selecting over Landry is 19 years old. He's a long term asset and Joe doesn't have that kind of time. Your basic argument is that by not selecting a DL at six, the team made a mistake. My basic argument is that DL can and will be addressed in the future and using #6 on one of them while forgoing the chance to add Landry would have been a mistake. And once again, the real payoff is when Landry and Taylor are playing with an improved line in front of them. That will most likely not be next year, but I imagine the team can get it done within a couple years, right about when a seasoned JC is hitting his stride, and the cornerstones of our defense ST and LL, are hitting their primes. Time will obviously tell, and I will be the first one to take a bite of crow if LL is a colossal f--- up. In the end, and for the millionth time, Jason Campbell holds the keys to the franchise. If he does well, he's gonna have a lot of fun over the years watching LL and ST run to the sidelines after an interception or a fumble recovery to give him back the ball. If Jason Campbell flops, Laron Landry and Sean Taylor will just be handing that ball back to some other guy, while most of the "top" DL we passed on watch from home on their plasma screen TV's.

I liked the story the NFL Network did on him. He looks like a great athlete and could be a good LB, but he's probably too small to play DE professionally. Were you thinking to address our D-Line needs with him?

BTW anyone know what Carolina's asking for Kris Jenkins?

Re: The Official 2007 Draft Discussion Thread

i do not believe that any defensive player available yesterday was worthy of the 6th pick other than landry....safety was a need, is dline a need yes, but let make a couple things clear on that too. to be a good defensive tackle in the league you need size and strength. and by size i mean wide not really tall. there are a bunch of good defensive tackles in this league that were not number 6 picks and or first rounders. i strongly believe in building from the two lines then going else where except when you have a player who is unbelievable at making plays and more than likely the best football player available. i would have taken cj if we could have traded up to get him. there are just 1-5 players every year who are flat out studs and make plays all over the field for you and landry was one of two this year and we got him, great pick......in the later rounds we need to address the dline but situational. get a massive dt for 1st and second down or get a quick and stong tackle for passing downs.....or a edge rusher who can only speed rush, or a massive de to eat up blocks on a bltiz. thats how you address the dline need now, just quit complaining about whats going on, its very frustrating reading posts that come across so negative towards the skins.

Re: The Official 2007 Draft Discussion Thread

Since they couldn't trade down I guess Landry was the best player available at #6 and I'm sure he will be a solid pro. I was against the trade for Briggs but I woke up this morning feeling that maybe they would have been better off with Briggs and Alan Branch than Landry. I wonder what Carolina wants for Kris Jenkins?
