CP held this team up offensively since weve gotten him.
Now he has his 1st poor season and EVERYONES hopping on the side of our mediocre QB?

AND I LIKE CAMPBELL... this is coming from someone who like Jason Campbell as a player as well... Ive always talked about his progression as JC was being bashed by everyone on here, just to clear that up.

UNLESS CP cant handle the fact of being part of a Multi-back system and was REALLY gonna be a pain in the ass this year id release em.

You are wrong on every point but your last.

I cringe each time i hear the "portis is our whole offense" argument.

1st bad season? where were you in 2006, 2008, and this year?

How much more does CP have to do do his coaches and team-mates to make you take off the Portis-colored glasses??

I was just like you. Portis used to be my fav' skin in 2004 and 2005, but i quickly figured out what he was all about...u should do the same

This has got nothing to do with on field performance, we're talking about his comments only, and his inability to censor himself when it comes to just about anybody it seems. It's not like this is the first time CP has thrown someone under the bus. I defended him in the past but now I'm done.

Its obvious as far as on-field performance, that he talks a bigger game than he plays....Portis is done, people need to face the facts.

I just think it's funny that some want to talk about past performance and how that should somehow give CP a pass... the guy hasn't done squat since the first half of the 2008 season. Since then he looks like he hit a serious wall.

I'm still holding out hope that Shanahan can whip him back into shape and get 15 quality carries out of him per game, but I'm in a big time wait and see approach with him.

CP did nothing without the OL performing well. He's lost a step (or two), plus he's a major a-hole and distraction.

At the end of the day it's all going to boil down to money. JC is an RFA, the Skins will probably tender him a mid-range offer that won't break the bank. Portis is scheduled to make $ 10M in 2010. The Skins aren't going to pay $ 10M for a RB getting 15 (probably medicore) carries per game. Plus in an uncapped year there won't be a cap hit. The Skins need to unload all their bad contracts this off-season, starting March 1.

Running backs need good linemen just as much as a QB.
Chris Johnson would struggle breaking a 1000 yards on our team.

Chris Johnson would also struggle with CP's speed and mileage.

Re: Jason Campbells response to Portis

I guess my main thing is that Portis was way outta line for calling any (current) teammate out in a public forum. Going to the coaches about Sellers might have been justified as a best-interest-of-team thing, but this is just selfish. He's trying to point fingers and deflect blame. God knows, Campbell has had enough fingers pointed his direction.

However, I can't side with the folks that say get rid of Portis...He may not be what he used to be, but he is still a valuable member of our team and can still contribute next year. Even taking into account all of his issues, I think we are a better team with him on the roster (not necessarily starting). The bottom line is that I'm curious to see how he does with a Shanahan line and I think he is worth the "risk" of holding on to. Hopefully they will have aired their differences out and moved on.

At least he didn't go all Gilbert Arenas on JC.

I agree with you on the first part...but seriously...what can Portis contribute to this team at this point??

Last season, even before he was injured, he was not running like a starting back. He wasnt running like a backup running back. He couldn't get out of his own way, stumbled over his own feet...fumbled, and just generally looked shot.....can't believe how people can still think he has something left...

The "risk" i'm referring to is that he could be locker room poison under a new regime that needs a clean slate. Also his trade value diminishes every year.

I actually think that if we play this right and he has a decent season statistically, next year as a split-time back, we can trade him for more compensation then than we would have gotten this year.

I mean I hear ya, and at times have felt the same way, but sometimes i feel like he was changed from the back he was in Denver to fit the Washington system. I feel like we never got the real Clinton Portis. Ultimately, I think that's what's doing him in in terms of his lost burst, his injuries (b/c his body isnt made to take thos type of hit), and his overall dropoff in production. Through a very reliable source, I've heard that he's supposed to go through this training regimen this offseason that involves him being cutoff from everyone but the training staff. If he is around next year and if he sticks to this refocused regimen, I'd be interested to see how the revamped CP does in Shanny's system.
