In many circumstances, you must be a member of "the" union. You do not have to be a member of the NRA to own a gun. A little bit of a difference there...

Wanting larger members and protecting their rights is any voting block or national organization. When it's required that every gun owner be an NRA member, and the NRA starts using it's dues AGAINST a significant percentage of its members wishes, and giving its members perks like say outrageous retirement plans just for being gun owners, then MAYBE you can make that comparison. Otherwise it just looks like an inept attempt to say everybody's as bad as the worst unions.

Saw this on Reddit, made me laugh... Totally unrealistic. Jamaal Brown is actually on the field.

Newspaper Publishes Gun Owners’ Names and Addresses - ABC News

In a statement to ABC News, The Journal News said its readers “are understandably interested to know about guns in their neighborhoods,” because of the conversation about gun control on its website after the shooting in Newtown, Conn., last week.
“We obtained the names and addresses of Westchester and Rockland residents who are licensed to own handguns through routine Freedom of Information law requests. We also requested information on the number and types of guns owned by permit holders, but officials in the county clerks offices in Westchester, Rockland and Putnam counties maintained that those specifics were not public record,” the statement read.
“New York’s top public-records expert, Robert Freeman, disagrees,” it added.
The paper declined to answer further questions about the map.

I would be beneficial for Gun owners to help rather then fight against new gun laws.

How is what the newspaper did "beneficial" in any way, shape, or form? Would it be equally "helpful" to post a list of homeowners that own no weapon of any kind?

This kind of stupidity on the newspaper's part, is exactly why people shouldn't rely on anti-gun people for any kind of solution to gun violence. What is the paper trying to accomplish here?

All they are trying to do is bully people in a similar way to the Out program by gay groups in the 80's.

Great. Now criminals know who doesn't have a firearm.

It's why I said it would be beneficial to gun owners to work with on new gun laws,if they don't then yeah you'll see things you don't like.

Re: Gun Control Thread- Should we?

Any of the anti-gun posters want to explain how more draconian rules would have helped in this case?

Felon with a gun

Before ex-con William Spengler, 62, opened fire on firefighters who had responded to a blaze at his home in Webster, N.Y., on Christmas Eve, killing two and seriously wounding two others, he'd typed a couple pages announcing his plans, police said.
"I still have to get ready to see how much of the neighborhood I can burn down and do what I do best: killing people," Spengler wrote, police said Tuesday.

If an off-duty cop hadn't been in the area with his firearm things would have been far worse.

Don't you know if they pass a ban on AR these things will no longer happen. Didn't the Brady Bill ban these guns and if there are any numbers to prove it worked would the anti gun people be touting these numbers? I've looked and cannot find anything.

We already have enough laws on the books. We need a better societal responsibility movement and correct enforcement of the current laws.

Anti-gunners all still hiding under their beds today, I'd guess?

This is just too funny. On Meet The Depressed Sunday the guy held up a 30 round clip which is illegal in DC and he is underinvestigation.
