I guess the RB in the WC offense plays a different role that will need a RB coach with WCO experience? |

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Multiple Sources Confirm Jim Zorn Named Head Coach
Something else intriguing from JLC: "Zorn got a five-year deal, in essence, but league sources said it is actually three years guaranteed with two club options after that."
So it is a 3 year guaranteed deal with a TEAM option for 4 and 5. With the trend of HCs not going into the last year of a contract as a lame duck and instead hitting the road or getting an extension, this makes this effectively a 2 year deal. What kind of record does Zorn have to produce in years one and two to get an extension? I figure he gets a one year reprieve but he is looking at needing a playoff appearance by year two to get an extension. Of course, he may just go into the third year with no guarantee, but like I said, that would be going against the trend. I am curious what people think he will need to produce in terms of a win-loss record and is this even fair for a guy who is installing a whole new offense? |

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Multiple Sources Confirm Jim Zorn Named Head Coach
fun and gun < wco.
I am worried about being 20M over the cap while changing offensive philosophy. I really don't know why that move was made if we were happy with the direction we were heading. If we had not committed to a wco, I wonder if we'd be introducing someone like Grimm as HC right now.

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Multiple Sources Confirm Jim Zorn Named Head Coach
Jim Fassel isn't to happy:
"At the end of the day," said Fassel, "Dan wanted to make a big splash, and I think he was worried about the Baltimore thing. He worried about the public relations (fallout), and he didn't know which way to go. "I heard someone say there are no more George Youngs or Jim Finks in this league, people who really know the game. And I think that happened here. I don't think Dan surrounded himself with enough football people." And also: "Someone said to me that Jim Zorn has three jobs he hasn't done now," Fassel said. "He's a head coach, and he's never done it. He's an offensive coordinator, and he's never done it. And he's calling the plays, and he's never done it." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wow, I mean I understand being pissed off at Synder but taking shots at Z-Man is cheap.

I've got to agree with Fassel's sentiment there. Not saying Zorn won't work out, maybe he will, but seems like Snyder has managed to alienate a good number of people with the ways he's dealt with them. He's shown a whole lot of good football people the door and allowed Cerrato to steer the ship. I don't feel to good about how the thing played out. If they now kick EB to the curb it will just continue a disturbing trend. Until proven otherwise, I am really uncomfortable with the power Cerrato is wielding around here. • On the circumstances that led to Zorn as the choice: "Vinny kept saying after every interview, 'Zorn.' And that's how we got there."

I've been critical of Snyder, and flat out have little to no faith in Vinny, but how the hell did he mistreat all of the people he interviewed? Because they didn't get the job they were mistreated? If someone minded being left on the hook, they would've withdrawn their name from consideration. DS actually spent time on this decision and didn't make a huge splash, so I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt here. BTW... Fassel's sour grapes comments hopefully give people a glimpse into the sides of his character that really rub people the wrong way. He's just that kind of guy, you know....

That offense had been dead and buried for years before Fassel got there. That would be like Dennis Kucinich hiring a new campaign manager right before he dropped out and blaming failure on him. |

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Multiple Sources Confirm Jim Zorn Named Head Coach
Fassel was just on Mike & Mike. The interesting thing he said was that he was directly involved in the hiring of Zorn and Blache. He even was speaking with Zorn after Zorn became the OC. Bizarre.
As an aside, although Fassel is saying he likes DS, I think his press blitz has a point and that is to provide a cautionary tale to other coaches who in the future would be interviewing for the Skins. He is pointing out the fact that 2nd time coaches have been very successful as of late as opposed to first time coaches. He is also pointing out that he was all but offered the job and then got jilted. Don't think for a minute that this kind of stuff isn't remembered. I am going all in with Zorn because I think if he fails, this job would be even less attractive to a future HC candidate. Plus, Whatever the motive of Fassel he is sounding kind of whiny. And of course, Zorn has the old school flat-top so we have that going for us! |

I agree. B-more was Billick's mess all the way and Fassel just got caught in the middle and ended up being his scapegoat.
