But an expensive one. If he agrees to a rework of his contract I think he definitely stays, but if not, adios. If he is gone by the draft, no way we don't take CY.

Redskins don't intend to trade TW per Rapoport. No real news here but it does feel like we could come to a conclusion of this story.

There's a number of problems with this:

1) Rappaport says the previous regime was intent on trading Trent. That is clearly bull crap. They were intent on keeping him and not paying him.
2) This is exactly what the skins would say if they wanted to trade Trent. Make it seem like we want to keep him to increase leverage in a trade
3) It says nothing of Trent's intentions. Trent did not hold out just because of Bruce Allen and the medical staff. He made the decision before any of that came up when he wanted more money and Bruce said no. Unless the team is willing to give Trent an extension with guaranteed money, there is no reason to think Trent would suddenly want to come and play under his current deal
4) And following the previous point - this is exactly what the team would leak publicly if they wanted to make it clear to Trent they weren't moving him, so he better show up and play.

Basically, this report demonstrates Rappaport doesn't know what he's talking about and is meaningless until we have signs that Trent wants to be here.

Good points. Honestly part of me has checked out of this story and just wants it solved...

Apparently Rivera hasn't really talked to Trent yet , and I guess anything we hear before that (unless it comes directly from Trent) is kinda irrelevant...

Exactly, If TW plays the silent game, and the Skins have not talked to him, then we are exactly where we were at the start of training camp last year. I have hope that Rivera will bring a better end to it, but so far we are where we were last year.

This will not drag on. It will be cleaned up by training camp. If he doesn't want to be with the Skins, Ron will move him. It may be for a ham sandwich.

Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins

Guys, Trent has one year left in his contract. He qualified last season for a year on his contract even though he wasn’t paid.

The Redskins, RR and even Gibbs are saying Trent will come back. This is NOT A mixed message. This is NOT a secret plot to get more for him in a trade. NOTHING will get us more than a second rounder - so he’s worth far more to the team then a trade for a draft pick.

Bruce Allen decided to punish Trent for daring to ask for a trade. Other elite players in the NFL asked for the same thing ( to be traded) AND WERE TRADED. But Bruce thought he could force TW to play by penalizing his pay.
AS USUAL, Allen totally mismanaged everything. He enraged Trent enough that he sacrificed $12 mill. Trent could have been traded to the Texans for AT LEAST a first rounder AND more. But Bruce decided to punish the best player on the team and a leader and Captain of the team. Bruce Allen was a complete tool and probably the worst GM in the NFL.

Anyway, the ongoing courtship will move forward rapidly. RR has made the public pronouncements of support for Trent and that he.’s part of the team. Rr wants him back (as long as he is healthy). They’ve just talked to the agent, seeing where Trent is at. They probably also pledged to the agent to get Trent the guaranteed money he wants. Then they’ll talk about the details - 3-5 year contract. The next part is up to Trent. He may be waiting to see what other teams have to offer. The Redskins need Trent more than he needs the team. But this love-in support now hopefully makes him forget Bruce Allen and the medical crew.

BL - everything is going smoothly and I give it an 80% chance he will return to the Redskins. The only issues are if there is something wrong medically (I doubt it) or in the unlikely scenario where Trent continues to insist on a trade. If that happens, he will be traded and we.’ll use the 2nd rounder of the best TE/WR/ OT left in the draft.

Where did you see that he talked to the agent?

I think you are being overly optimistic, and there is no way to think the Skins are going to offer a 3-5 year contract. If they do, that would be discouraging.

The team’s deliberate movement to reach out to Trent’s lawyer came from an article in “Riggin’s Rag”, which posts daily internet articles in the team. I believe this news site has very good connections within the teams leadership. This article was put out two days ago and was called “Teams intent to keep Trent Williams”. I don’t just make up important facts without a source. Almost ALL the internet articles I’ve read in the last week are VERY optimistic about Trent coming back. Gibb’s even made a positive statement about it in an interview for publication. This planned publicity campaign is NOT by accident. It’s a love bomb to Trent from the teams leadership.

The Redskin’s team leadership has totally changed for the better. All the people who Trent called out, are gone. All the comments from various people in the team’s management are VERY positive toward Trent. Reaching out to Trent’s lawyer is the next logical step. RR wants to find out if they can get Trent back within the team’s cap space. Trent wants guaranteed money, so that’s the key point of contention. If the Redskins and Trent’s lawyer can agree to a contract, then it will be up to Trent if he wants to come back. There was a lot of bad blood between Trent and Bruce Allen. I think the team will show that it’s all water under the bridge. I rate the possibility of getting Trent back with a new contract as VERY HIGH, assuming there’s no real health problems. If I am wrong I will eat crow on this thread!! Let.’s see how this issue play’s out.

Why are you discouraged by TW coming back? He is just 32 and totally rested. He will be playing for an excellent HC who is inspirational. The team will be on the ascent. He will still be THE BEST OL player on the team. We need him for 2-3 years as the OL is being rebuilt. Penn was just a bandaid and may retire. Bringing Trent back is a very positive move.

IMO, the environment at Redskins Park has already dramatically changed for the better since last season, as it relates to Trent's issues with team management and staff. I believe that if RR is determined to have Trent at LT next season then he can and will get it done; therefore, I'm writing Trent's name IN INK on my starting lineup card for Game 1.

A potentially significant development for the #Redskins: Franchise LT Trent Williams & new coach Ron Rivera have touched base for what sounded like a positive conversation, I’m told. The next step would be for Williams to come in to visit, but the two sides are now communicating.

That was what was needed to get the process rolling. I really doubt it will take long for the two sides to make a mutual decision as to if TW stays or goes.

He's staying, the skins won't move him and he knows he has to play. He'll be fresh at least

Yep I think that's exactly what will happen too, unless a team comes in with an offer that Redskins cannot refuse.
