Re: Williams will stay....yyeeeeeaaaaaahhhh!
I guess the next question will be which one of his staff members become a hot commodity or does Snyder sure them up as well. Blache seems to be very solid and has a lot of respect, hopefully they stay loyal.

Re: Williams will stay....yyeeeeeaaaaaahhhh!
This is just a GREAT move. Williams said in the interview that he is a REDSKIN. I LOVE that!! This is also great for free agency in the offseason. If good defensive free agents know that GW is here for the long haul, it may entice more of them to sign with the REDSKINS. Hell, not just defensive players. If I'm an NFL WR, I may want to come here knowing that the D will get turnovers and give me more opportunities to score. GREAT NEWS!!! FRIGGIN' GREAT NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wonder if there are any stipulations in the contract for him to be able to leave if certain teams make him a head coach offer.

Another team would have to put together a real blockbuster deal to pull Williams away from Washington. That's not to say it won't happen, but from the sound of it, Williams would want a personnel situation similar to what Gibbs has here with the Redskins-- meaning as head coach he would have significant control over personnel decisions, and the ownership would be willing to spend whatever is necessary to make those decisions a reality. There simply aren't that many franchises where that situation would work-- at least not with someone with a less-than-stellar head coaching record like Williams's. I think Williams knows how good he has it here, and I think he's competitive enough that he wouldn't back down from the challenge of filling Gibbs's hallowed shoes when Gibbs retires.

Re: Williams will stay....yyeeeeeaaaaaahhhh!
what does that article mean by 'doesn't preclude him from taking a gig next year'??
next year when? he can't interview but he can still leave? tell me they mean '07-'08.

He will be around for the 2006 season, it just means that this time next year he's free to interview for jobs if he wants. Of course, if he does, I'll bet Dan Snyder busts out the pocketbook again. I think he wants nothing more than to keep Gregg to be his next head coach. I love the organizational structure in place. HTTR! |
