Re: Best Available? Draft a TE
That would be insane to draft a TE. we have about 20 on the roster already. Draft a DE, unless a VERY GOOD WR drops to us. Get depth at either D-Line or O-line later in the draft. 3rd round a corner or safety. We need some secondary depth, BAD. I personally would trade Ramsey for picks. you can never have too many picks. and pick up a veteran FA QB. there are going to be plenty out there.

the difference is in the 2nd round you can either get a sure starter at TE or OG or SS or you can get a spare part WR/DE with no promises of contributing next year at all. The WR corp this year isn't just weak, its bad. DE/DT has talent though. you HAVE to draft OL, and remember last time we took OL later on? one lasted a year and the other looks like he'll never play. If you want a guy that can start, the 5th round is NOT the place to find him. Gibs needs althletic guards and even the bad ones are generally gone by then. |

My point on the thread wasnt that we HAVE to draft a TE, but that it may make sense for us to in a bang-for-your-buck sort of way. |

Best player available doesn't always improve your team the most. You have to pick guys that fit your style of football. When you add a player, the goal is to make the team play better as a whole, not get more guys who can play well on your team. There's a big difference. A blocking TE would help Portis tremendously in short-yardage situations. He'd pick up more 1st downs and TDs and defenses might need to use 8 in the box more often. While a pass-catching TE would probably just eat into Cooley's production.

But my thought was that this might be a good year to look at a TE because we can get a better one later than we could in the foreseeable future. |

Re: Best Available? Draft a TE
If TEs are deep, it'll be a smart move to draft otherwise. Question is, who'll be available in the third?

Re: Best Available? Draft a TE
I think we are getting ahead of things here. Because what we do in freeagent market well have a big say what we will do in aprils draft! Maybe we pick up a free agent WR's or fill two needs like a DE and WR. That would change our view in the draft to other needs. But yes you should take a long hard look if a player falls to you that can improve your team! Then again maybe nothing happens in free agent market but I think we[Redskins] will use both to improve this team!

Re: Best Available? Draft a TE
WR and DE are there in FA in our price range. OL aren't, FA TEs aren't very hot either... and its a weak DB market compared to last year. If the need can be filled in FA without a $40mill contract, that's a good place to fill it for immediate results and then draft the best you can get in the draft... we could get 3 starters in the draft if the skins can use FA for DE and WR.
