Redskins interested in Lloyd, report says
49ERS RECEIVER'S DEAL MIGHT MAKE IT TOUGH
By Dennis Georgatos
Mercury News

The Washington Redskins reportedly are making a pitch for 49ers receiver Brandon Lloyd.

Lloyd, after a team-leading 48 catches for 733 yards last season, is a restricted free agent bound to the 49ers by a $1.6 million qualifying offer. The tender gives the 49ers the right to match any offer or receive a compensatory first-round pick if Lloyd signs elsewhere.

The Redskins are interested in Lloyd as a complement to Pro Bowl receiver Santana Moss. However, they are without a first-round pick in next month's draft.

So the Redskins are pursuing a trade for Lloyd, and according to the Washington Post, a deal could be imminent. One proposal being considered was a pair of second-round picks for the receiver, the Post reported.

Aaron Salkin, a spokesman for the 49ers, said the Redskins had not yet spoken with the 49ers about the deal, which can now be made with the start of the free-agency signing period.

In the past, Coach Mike Nolan and team vice president Scot McCloughan have said they would be willing to consider virtually any trade or roster move that they believe would make the team better.

Lloyd's agent, Joby Branion, did not return a phone call seeking comment, and a Redskins spokesman did not return a phone message.

Nolan has praised Lloyd's abilities but the receiver also has drawn the coach's ire. Nolan was critical of Lloyd after a loss in Chicago in which the player shifted blame for a dropped pass at the goal line to quarterback Cody Pickett.

• In other news, the 49ers might wrap up a new contact for kicker Joe Nedney by today. Nedney made 26 of 28 field-goal tries last season, including all 10 between 40 and 49 yards.

The way it looks then is the QB threw it too soon cause he didn't look until it was right by him.

so he jumps up does a front flip along with a 360 spin and then catches the ball but would duck his head to miss a easy catch on purpose? It seems like he didn't think the ball was to him...

He just makes silly mistakes and is inconsistant. He drops any pass in which contact might be involved......he makes amazing plays when nobody can touch him.

Those are his kind of catches, although that would kind of dull. I think if he had tipped it off his toes done a cartwheel and made a one handed grab whilst smoking a ciggerette with the other...that would have been more along the lines of what he does. But...

Back on topic, good luck with him. I was a fan of his for a while. Then came the duck, then many other little things and the chicago gator. Maybe going to Washington will help him sprout some balls and get him to start making the plays that matter rather than just the ones that make highlight reels.

Mad props to you 9erMan.

We get Lloyd. You still are stuck with Nolan. We remember him from when he was running the Clay Aiken style defense here before he finally got fired (Snyder got tired of taking it like he was Clay Aiken). Hmmm. Who is going to be available in the 3rd round this year or the 4th next year that will be an upgrade?

Granted, you guys are in rebuild mode and two mid round picks may make more sense (no, you can forget about two second rounders).

The big value of Lloyd to us is how he will fit into the bigger picture of the offense. He will make our QB better and our other WRs better. He isn't going to have to be The Man.

He was forced into a role in SF that he simply A) wasn't ready for and B) didn't have the team around him that would have given him any chance to succeed.

This deal will probably work out to be good for everybody.

just to draw another connection. remember Santana was called sideline santana? Everyone said he was scared of getting hit. I didn't notice that much in the year. I think that is more of a silly mistake though. What pinkston did is being scared...

maybe we will let sean taylor hit him a few hundred times until he he gets used to it. That, however, may be conterproductive.

I hope the deal works out for both if us. Norv will want a WR that can get downfield which Lloyd is not. You need role players like Lloyd to help your overall offense. Eric Johnson will be back, we will have Vernon Davis, and our line will be much better so I am not worried about replacing his receptions.

Lloyd may help a team that has a #1 sure....but he is not very fast and does not go over the middle so he will never be worth a day 1 pick IMO.

The vanilla defense Nolan ran in DC had a lot to do with the lack of talent and many injuries on your defense. He is a good motivator and will not be calling the plays

A lot of us would have been happy with 4th round compensation but we are glad that you guys are willing to give us more for what we feel is a 3rd WR. I wish you all the very best and many victories over Dallas/Philly.

PS: Do not subject yourselves to Lloyds "rapping". It is beyond terrible.

If Lloyd is only at best a 3rd WR who is 49ers best??? Battle???? I live out here and see many 9er games. Yes he may not be as good as many of us think but just how good is he. He plays for a bad team that is bad from owner to coach. As long as he has played in the NFL this is what he has had to deal with! I believe he is better then Patten and many of the free agents or a very bad Draft of wideouts in april. I still see what you are saying a 3rd rounders maybe a little high!
