definitely. One thing that surprised me is that in the sporting news, they are doing position by position grades for each team. Our interior line got a C+. i was very surprised because teams with mediocre lines got better grades than us. I thought we should be at least a B. Randy Thomas is a monster, and Dockery was very strong

I think the whole reason for that was because of the way they performed last year. Dockery did fairly well, and he has the size and potential to become a premier lineman. With Buges back and with an offense primarily based on the running game, the o-line should get the respect it deserves.

This is great work Canuck! I must admit I never knew his name was Adebolah Jimoh.

Canuck, would you like to explain what are release fees and how they affect the cap?

I think the scariest part of that $102 mil is that it only includes the salaries for 35 players. Looks like we'll have to draft really well in the next couple of years to fill some gaps as we will have some awfully tough personnel decisions to make in a few years.

we'll be dumping some large salaries im sure. Brunell wont be around too long, and Samuels will eventually have to re-structure or be out

The release fee is basically the remaining signing bonus (ie the cap hit) we would face if the player was released at that time.

I find it very useful to see what the contract really means and how long we can expect a guy to be on board (ie Brunell). It's the easiest way to see the ramifications of any long-term deal.

For instance if Samuels didn't have all this remaining signing bonus (ie such a high release fee), there's no way (IMO) we'd be keeping him on board at a cap hit of $8.75M. But since his release fee is so high this year, the Skins really have no choice but to keep him (which is also why he has not restructured, IMO).

I sure hope so. We also have to get PR signed ASAP.

I haven't really crunched the numbers for 2005 and beyond, but I'm quite sure Samuels, Wynn, and Gardner will all be gone (or restructure) next year. That will free up some cash.

I think we should look at resigning Hamdan and McCullough ASAP. They haven't proved themselves yet, but I suspect they have good potential, if not as starters, certainly as reliable backups. Sign them now to 4/5 year deals and we could get a couple of bargains.

Oh and I agree on Wynn.

Good job explaining the release fee Canuck. Now onto a more important question "Save the Expos"??. You're knowledgable about the business of sports, so explain to me how you think the Expos can stay in Montreal and be competitive?

Are you a CFL fan, if so who's your team, the Alouettes? I'm an Argo fan myself, but my cousin is a die-hard Alouettes fan. We've got our CFL fantasy draft this weekend.

Don't get me wrong. I love the CFL and even Arena Football, but to me nothing beats NFL Sunday. That said though, I enjoy playing in the CFL fantasy leagues because when I lose I can just tell everyone else in the league "well I don't get to really see any games and I'm not Canadian" but when I win I can tell everyone "Y'all suck! You lost to me and I'm not even Canadian"
