Totally agree. The man, if u could even call him that, instructed the ruthless torture and slaughter of thousands of people. I'm normally a pretty laid back guy but when it comes to the death penalty I strongly believe in what it is and agree with Schneed that it needs to have a much shorter time limit between end of the trial stage and the actual execution. People that make the conscious(sp?) decision to take another person's life especially in an extremely violent manner, raping multiple people especially children, and other equally atrocious crimes deserve very little, if any, compassion in my personal opinion.

Secondly, Matty, don't say "what are WE doing hanging people this day in age." It's not we, as in the Americans are not hanging him. We caught him, but Iraq tried him, Iraq convicted him, Iraq sentenced him, and Iraq executed him. The US didn't hang him. It's their thing, do what they wanna do, we can't tell them who to sock it to.

Thirdly, I'm all for capital punishment. I'm not interested in paying taxes to feed death row inmates here in the states for the rest of their lives. I'm not religious; I have no moral problem with killing someone who, left to their own devices, would kill again.
I meant we as in human beings.

It's just a shame really... killing him isn't going to right the many wrongs he committed, it's only going to add fuel to the fire.

Thou shall not kill shouldn't have exceptions.

Re: Saddam hangs

I think of it not as killing but removal of something that no longer deserves to be here.

It costs a lot more to execute someone than it does to keep them in jail for a lifetime

Pretty barbaric to kill that guy? Come on. Sickening to believe someone would even believe that.

More barbaric practices are legally and willingly carried out every day within our own borders.

Dang, we done gone and went political now. Thou shalt not kill was a commandment listed in the Bible, supposedly handed down by God.

You're suggesting that we legislate religion, which I wholeheartedly disagree with.

Maybe you meant that killing is just wrong from a moral sense, regardless of what religion you subscribe to. If so, then your point is a little easier to swallow, just poor choice of words I guess.

Either way though, religion should stay out of it altogether. If it's a moral issue, I guess I have different morals. There are circumstances in which killing is OK in my book (not many, but there are some).

Not in Saddam's case where he went right to the execution. Here in the states you are right, because the death row convicts appeal time after time, taking up costly death row cells for years and commanding the time of judges and court staff.

But then you consider how our prisons are overcrowded already, and how keeping someone in jail for life just takes up space in the prisons. There's a bit of a trickle-down effect.

Let me go on the record and say I think we, America, executed Saddam.
Yes, he was hung in Iraq by Iraqis, but his blood is on our hands.

Re: Saddam hangs

I think the hanging is stupid, bc getting jailed for life would be a worst penalty. And this is just going to cause more sectarian violence, which is the last thing Iraq needs.

Terrible.

Sadamm still had supporters who could break him out of jail, and whos to say the terrorists wouldent do it to make a statement against america. Dead is where he with his gay lover Satan.

Also about the death penalty, when you are messed up in the head enough to kill someone for fun or without remorse i highly doubt that jail will be any great punishment to you. Death penalty can also give closure to families and friends who might not just feel safe with a maniac behind bars.

So what? whats your point? This argument is used all the time and #1 I just dont believe it and #2 dont give a shit. You kill, you die. It just needs to be a quicker process.
