Re: Jack Bauer's Days are Numbered?: FCC May Regulate Violence on Television
There has been talk of allowing FCC regulation of cable television too.
Bay Buchanon (sister of Pat) was on CNN debating in favor of it. Enjoy HBO while it lasts. |

I would think that HBO would be set since it's a seperate pay channel.

Re: Jack Bauer's Days are Numbered?: FCC May Regulate Violence on Television
It should be up to the parent to step in and not let their children watch violent or adult themed shows. I am sure that the goverment has bigger problems to worry about than if little Johnny or little Suzy are watching 24, CSI or what not. The parent should be WATCHING and PAYING ATTENTION to their children and KNOW what their children are doing.
I agree with Saden if our children are not seeing it on TV they are probably hearing about it at school. I just guess that is where the parents need to step in and teach their children better...

Does this mean the days of seeing an anvil from the sky and landing on Wile E. Coyote could soon be over?

Re: Jack Bauer's Days are Numbered?: FCC May Regulate Violence on Television
As I read through the post after mine it seems as the younger posters who probably do not have kids are more against regulation than the older posters who probably have kids. Like I said earlier I'm against regulating TV more than is currently being done. I do think that there needs to be and believe there is a market for more family friendly TV shows. Its funny because the family movies consitantly draw a much larger crowds than the R rated movies. I think there is a lack of talent on TV and movies and thats why they have to result to using sex and violance to attract an audience. They don't have the talent to make us laugh without it.

and Im all for funny, racy commercials, but they have to be on after 'family hours'. I think thats where a bigger problem is. Some of the commercials are getting over the top on prime time. Again I dont have a problem with them, but what good does a channel or rating blocker do if the commercial is geared to adults?

Re: Jack Bauer's Days are Numbered?: FCC May Regulate Violence on Television
The FCC can take their conservative bullshit and shove it up their own asses. It's called a Vchip parents. If you care soo much about what you child is watching take the initiative of screening out shows that are violent. Nowadays most people have dish or digital cable, which is also another way parents can control what their child watches.

PBS is your friend. They have lots of kids shows and a variety of educational programs. Why just past weekend I was watching a Spanish animated show for no apparent reason. It was entertaining even though I didn't understand a single word
