The team has financially married themselves to these guys; they've decided that we're going to keep these guys around as Redskins for the long haul. We couldn't save anything by cutting Samuels until 2009, no savings on Jansen until 2010, and no savings on Randy Thomas until 2011.

I'd like to praise the Redskins for that thinking. First, they realize how good these guys are, how hard they work, how important their leadership is, and how high-character they are. The team can feel comfortable that these 3 are going to work hard their whole career and keep delivering year in and year out. But more so, this committment to the offensive line shows that the Redskins' front office understands that a quality offensive line is the backbone of an offense. They seem to understand that without this line, Campbell would have no chance of developing, and Portis and Betts would have no chance of making a big impact for us.

Looking at the contracts can tell you a lot. It tells me that the team knows what it has in Jansen, Samuels, and Randy Thomas, and they love what they see. They want them around for the long haul. The contracts also tell me that they're not sure how to handle the aging defensive players we have (Springs, Washington, Griffin, Daniels). The team has structured their contracts in a way that gives the team flexibility to either keep them or cut them.

The contracts really tell you who the REAL core Redskins are. Samuels, Jansen, and Randy Thomas are right at the top of the list, and I wouldn't have it any other way. There's something about having some serious meat and potatoes at the heart of your team.

PS I heart Randy Thomas.

i heart randy thomas too

Shameless self-promotion. It is what it is.

Re: Redskins Insider blog shout out to the Warpath

Hey guys, just saw this thread now. Thanks a lot for all the kind words. Good to see JLC is on board.

I've been extremely busy lately so I haven't posted much but I'm always lingering around. Gonna try to get some updated cap sheets done this weekend.

Thanks again.

First off, great work CC, and I really enjoy Schneed's insights as well. Man, I love me some Warpath.

Second, does anyone know where I can find a list of player salaries and/or team cap figures? I have been searching but can't find a website anywhere...

USA Today has what you're looking for but they don't update it often enough

Yeah, I found something like that on USA Today, but the most recent update was 2005....

You can also click on any player here:

Fantasy Football - Rotoworld.com

and find out their info (but I don't know that it tells you overall team info)

And there's this: NFL Players Association - Resources - Active Player Search (same issue though)

Re: Redskins Insider blog shout out to the Warpath

First off I should also give kudos to my main man Schneed. I just post the numbers but he's the true Skins cap analyzer. And he's saved me thousands of typing hours over the years.

As for other cap sites...

- USA Today is great but only gets updated during the offseason.
- NFLPA gets updated quickly but only includes salary amounts, not bonuses.

To get the full picture you need a junkie like me. Here's a list of cap sites for the other teams. Of course none of them are as nice as mine.

Wow. Awesome. Thanks CC. By the way, what's up with the Jags cap site being "buttshark.com?" That's, um, strange...

Re: Redskins Insider blog shout out to the Warpath

Wow, GREAT point of reference there CC, we should save that post somewhere as a reference point on the site. Looking at the cap figures of other teams around the league can lead to anticipation of guys getting cut and becoming available. Also, when a trade rumor comes around, say the Colts are thinking about trading Peyton Manning, having their cap information at hand will quickly tell us that it's financially impossible. We'll have even better ability to recognize bogus trade rumors when we see them.

By the way, thanks for the shout out. I feel like I've just been knighted by King Arthur.

CC, you can add in links as you see fit. Matty, you can add it as a main part of our site (not just a thread) as you see fit

Schneed10, you can dance if you want to.

Can I leave my friends behind?

Because if my friends won't dance and if they don't dance then they're no friends of mine.

When did you make friends?

Maybe if you weren't so rude and totally removed

Ahhh...some words of wisdom from Men Without Hats. And it's fitting since they come from my hometown (Montreal).

PS - Good idea with the links thread. I'll update it as new ones are added.
