I heard but haven't had the time to check that the first episode this season when Tony and Bobby are in the boat is labeled "Members Only"

I also heard that the killer was Phil's brother.

Re: Sopranos Finale (Spoiler)

I think the best analysis I have read so far explaining the mixed reaction to the finale is this: the Sopranos, for whatever reason, was a show simultaneously able to appeal to those with an appreciation for sophisticated art and film as well as those who just like crime capers and interesting TV shows. The former crowd gets the ending and is thrilled by the genius of it, the TV guys are understandibly pissed at the lack of resolution

What Chase has done is solidify the show's place in history as art, perhaps the crowning artistic achievement of this era. I think the fact that Joe 6-pack feels cheated is of little consequence to him.

The episode when Tony and Bobby are in the boat is titled "Soprano Home Movies." Members only was the first episode of season 6, where Phil began to assume control of New York. The boat episode was actually technically 14. The killer is not Phil's brother. That has been debunked.

My final thought is this. Anyone looking to clues within the scene to figure out what happened is completely missing the point of the ending. The point is that those questions aren't answered, and aren't going to be answered. That's why we will still be talking about this show 20 years from now.

Re: Sopranos Finale (Spoiler)

The point of the scene is that this is what Tony's life has come to. Doing something mundane like eating out with the family is a paranoia consuming effort now. Whether his life goes on or not doesn't matter because his life blows. We're not really supposed to care whether he got capped or not. We're supposed to know that his life, or any thing resembling what we'd call a life is already over. It ends so aburptly to magnify the fact that we already know how it ends since he has no life to speak of. His friends are all dead and he's one rat away from going to jail. What happened next does not matter. It's is already over.

Re: Sopranos Finale (Spoiler)

I watched the last 15 minutes last night just to see what the big deal was. Keep in mind I haven't watched the show regularly since season 2.

I liked the ending, sure it wasn't gift wrapped with a bow on top but what's the fun in that?? We all know what's going to happen to Tony anyway, he's either going to get wacked or go to prison. I know there are no plans right now, but I think they're also keeping open the possibility of a movie down the road.

The audience got whacked. We never saw it coming, and we faded to black.

LOL good take

I think that's seriously a good point though. In those last few minutes you definitely see things from Tony's perspective. The constant paranoia, looking at everyone who comes in the room, never knowing who could be coming for him at any given time, then all of a sudden the screen goes blank and it's over.

What happened we say?

But does it really matter?

When it's over for you in real life you won't know what happened and I think that was the point of this ending.

The show is over, the ending really didn't matter, it was the journey that mattered and perhaps the reason for the Journey song playing at the end.

The latter was most definitely not the "B" side of the former as it was recorded about 5-7 years earlier. Now obviously they can stack those tunes on a jukebox in any fashion, but unless someone here can conclusively tell me this is standard A Side/B Side, I think the B side tells us exactly how Chase wants us to view the end end of the "Journey." Any way you want it." - St. Stephen
I REALLY like that analysis. Nice one.
