But the thing is young whippersnapper there was a time when it would have been unbelievable that someone hadn't heard of the Beastie Boys, rap fan or not.

No, I just meant it's crazy how quickly you grow up, and people not knowing music from your childhood is a stunning barometer for indicating that. Just wait 5 or 10 years when someone asks you like who Linkin Park is and you'll see what I mean.

Re: Beastie Boys - The Mix-Up

Beastie Boys were big enough that anyone who even tacitly listens to music and is under the age of say 65 should have heard of them. You may have no idea what they sing or how they sound but the name ought to ring a bell. It always astounds me when someone has totally whiffed on a pop culture icon like this.

I still think the most people 13-21 know who they are and their music. Even my jaw dropped when earthquake asked who they are. Many of their songs are still played on the top radio stations daily. I know you were just giving an example but for the sake of discussion, i get the impression that they were much bigger than linkin park is today. I could be wrong that is just my impression.

no offense to earthquake ofcourse, i am just saying.

Re: Beastie Boys - The Mix-Up

I only heard one song of the album so far. I'll probably listen to it all tonight. It was pretty good. I can see myself playing that in the background when i go back to college while playing madden or something.

Man, i am getting bored this summer.

Yeah I would say Beastie Boys were bigger than LP. At least in iconic terms. BB broke new ground and are considered top innovators. They're on the list of bands who shaped the sounds of the last 2 decades. As popular as LP is I don't see them nearly in the same light.

God at my old factory job me and another guy used to play beastie's all day long and piss of the old folks, but it was my radio so I was like tough crap bring yours in and you can play what you want, good times, one day I think we repeated girls 30 times in a row just for the irritation factor ha ha

Yeah, I don't really know jack about LP other than that the kiddies seem to like them. They did sell 600K copies of an album in one week this year, which is unheard of in a post Itunes world.

BUT.....

The Beasties were one of the truly transcendent groups of their time, and PB and Check Your Head rank as two of the representative classics of that era, imo.

EQ, you really should check out their old stuff. If you like Hiphop but you don't like it, then you sound like the kind of person who would eat the Beasties up.
