Re: ESPN's "Who's Now" Stinks
I feel like I've seen it a hundred times since I first got here. Scenes from it are at every other staff meeting.
AMD, I'm more now than BrudLee but not as now as Mattyk, none of us are as now as Summo

Re: ESPN's "Who's Now" Stinks
You're pretty Now right now. Matty might just be the most Now of all the mods, but that hasn't always been the case. I'd say pre-marriage TMC was the most Now person on this site, but now I'd have to give the Now title to BSB. I think I've gone cross-eyed.
Apparently not everyone at ESPN is thrilled with the What's Now campaign. this is from Bill Simmons' chat that's still going on (I think): Quote:
now

Re: ESPN's "Who's Now" Stinks
I dont think it is that bad of a concept, it is pretty much the kinda stuff they talk about on PTI, which I love. But the problem is, as always on ESPN, they overhype it and make it cheesy and retarded. See the MNF on ESPN for example. The whole guy running through the streets and turning into a football player was really lame(the intro video) and bringing in celebs to waste time?
Who's Now has a really lame intro video too, were that guy touches some kinda of hologram and walks through it. A weak attempt on trying to make the whole thing look good. Also how the fuck does LT beat Beckham(sp) at being more "now"? Beckham is known throughout the world, and an Icon for a sport, LT isnt an icon for the NFL. Beckham has been amazingly successful in both league and national play, and LT doesnt have a ring. Beckham is married to Posh Spice and has tons of endorsements, while LT has Vitamin Water? Plus Beck is boys with Tom Cruise and rolls with the Hollywood type, which LT does not to that extent. I dont care what you think about soccer, Beck is more "now" or whatever.

I liked their ultimate depth chart from last year.

Re: ESPN's "Who's Now" Stinks
Other than coverage of actual games, I can't stand anything on espn anymore except PTI and some of ATH. There was a hilarious deadspin post today listing a bunch of the jokes Jimmy Kimmel told at the espy's that they didn't air for whatever reason. Not that I would've watched the espy's in the first place, but go figure.

Re: ESPN's "Who's Now" Stinks
I'd have to co-sign with Hoo's assessment... I think the talking heads are always choosing the "major" sport athlete in each matchup... last night (for instance), the matchup was b/t shaq and michael phelps. They kept bringing up shaq's past... the freakin' segment is about the present, isn't it? Phelps broke a bunch of world records recently in his sport. Shaq's on bum legs lately, so he's not really "now" imo.

Granted, Parker was just named the NBA Finals MVP and he just married a (hot) B-list celebrity, but Federer may very well be considered the greatest tennis player of all time in the very near future. I guess the problem with Federer is the fact that he's squeaky clean and doesn't run his yap all the time, so by ESPN's standards he's pretty much irrelevant.
