Yeah the cop took pictures, and he wasnt too worried so I guess he kinda knew I didnt need immediate attention. I thought it wasnt too bad last night, but I guess being drunk made it hurt less.

Right now I have a black eye, busted lip, swollen places on my face, and my heads hurts because of punches.

And I agree SBF, sometimes anyplace can be dangerous. I feel like I have taken living in the safe place of NOVA for granted, Charlottesville has a much dangerous population. I know this too and I was a freaking idiot for being alone and not just leaving the garage when I saw that guy. I had that feeling in my gut that something is wrong right when I entered the place, and I should have followed my instinct. Using that gut reaction is right 99% of the time.

You bring shame to your people! Have you not learned how to fight from all the Bollywood movies you've seen? Dishoom Dishoom man

But seriously man, that really does suck. I'm glad that you're relatively ok

And no, I wouldn't have retaliated. You never who else or what else he had. Muggers aren't interested in fighting fair.

Man, glad to hear you are still around to tell this tale! I think you did the right thing, give them whatever they wanted and get the hell out of dodge. Did you get a good look at him? If so, you can always be on the lookout for the SOB and catch his ass by surprise one day :-).

Glad to hear you are recovering.

I did get a good look and him and I gave a pretty good description to the police. But the problem is that Charlottesville is also a city and they have a huge city population. I highly doubt they are gonna find this guy.

Last night I was terrified about running into the guy again(partly because I was drunk). This mugging happened about 2 blocks from house. I also dont know about this guy, what if he is affiliated with a gang or whatnot.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing, and thats why I just coughed up my cash. It was about 80-100 bucks, I really dont care about the money though. Also he didnt grab my wallet, which was a surprise to me. I still have my credit cards and what not.

Re: I got mugged

Thanks guys, I appreciate you all hearing me out on this one. I hear about stuff like this happening here at uva, but just never thought I would be the victim. I have always been pretty good about knowing what is a good situation and what is not, but I just make a really bad mistake yesterday night.

But I guess it was a learning experience.

Re: I got mugged

So a little update. I talked to student affairs and they have an assistant dean that deals with issues like this. I spoke to him for a while just to give information and stuff but he was really nice. He kept on asking what he could do to help me out. The University has a ton of services for students who just need to talk to someone etc. I told him I didnt need any of that, but just send out an email ASAP to UVA students about this incident.

Usually our school sends out emails after these incidents to let students know to be safe. I just want it to get out, because the area this happened is right where many students lives, and I just dont want to hear about this happening to someone again.

Re: I got mugged

That's crazy this happened there. Whenever I'm up in that direction it always seems like such a much safer place than a lot of big cities in VA. My wife and I are always walking around the outdoor mall downtown and it just seems to be such a nice place. Glad to hear you're OK man..

This kinda stuff actually happens around the Corner area in Charlottesville during the night when people are out partying. Usually its more like some older townie trying to rape a girl that is walking back home, by herself.

Last year someone was robbed at gunpoint in the same area. I am usually always aware of what is going on, and I am usually the first guy that tells people that we should move/leave because it doesnt feel right.

Last night I just made a terrible decision and it was really fucked up on my part. Pretty much my fault. I know it is a random event but still it could have been prevented.

Re: I got mugged

Hate that it happened to you, hoo, but glad to know you only came away with some lost money and bruises. Try not to look back at the situation to see what you should have done differently to the attacker because if there is a next time it will be a different situation. Just remember yourself and your surroundings always.

Re: I got mugged

*ANYONE WITH STRONG POLITICAL FEELINGS AND THE PROPENSITY FOR ARGUMENT IGNORE THIS POST*

This is one of the reasons I have a concealed carry permit. Whenever I go down to Mexico (4-5 times per year) with my wife, I am always carrying because there is absolutely no law enforcement that you can count on. If you're going in to an unsafe area, you have to be able to protect yourself and anyone with you.
(the above statement is indicative of a constitutionally protected personal choice. I am a former military member who has had extensive firearms training. If you would decide to look into some measure of protection make sure you get the proper training so that you will not only have the means but also the wherewithal to protect yourself.)

BTW, you were absolutely right not to try and drunk fight that guy off of you. If all you lost was a hundred bucks and a black eye, chalk it up to learning a tough lesson and count your blessings.

Re: I got mugged

You should have used the quart of blood technique. You did the right thing by not fighting back. If someone is mugging you there probably a pretty desperate person and there’s no telling how far they might go to get your money. Nothing you own is worth your life. Glad to hear your ok hooskins.
